Thanks for not mentioning the Calcutta Cup. I used to go to the matches, then I watched them on tv, now I make sure I'm out of reach all day.

Has anyone ever munched at the memorial?
by Sirius Dogma ini have always wanted to do that at a kingdom hall.
over the past few years i celebrated pesach (passover) with some jewish friends and it was so cool to be able to munch the food.
besides the jewish tradition was much more fun and was more like a party.

Ken, drinking the entire bottle would be easy, but a whole box of crackers is more of a challenge,
My family run a contract cleaning company (what a surprise) and one year we had this one employee (non JW) who came to the Memorial He was someone's magazine route call. He was a lovely guy, had fought in Burma, but was an absolute fright to look at and smelled terrible. I was one of the servers (thrill) and as I passed the bread to his row I just knew he was going to eat it. I contemplated shouting "Touch the biscuits and you're fired!" but kept my mouth shut. He took a few really large pieces and proceeded to eat them. Of course his mouth was dry as he noisily masticated and I struggled with the giggles. He refused the wine as he held that he was teatotal (a fib).
This same guy had a lot of respect for my dad, and after my dad died he told me that his spirit used to come and visit him when he cleaned his one car park. Why my ghostly dad visited one of our staff and not me I'll never understand.
p.s. apologies to any that find this discussion irreverent.

It's a congregational choice, usually the elder who's giving the talk arranges it. Bought biscuits and bought wine in this part of the world. My father would choose a wine he would enjoy later, and it was always pretty cheap. It always intrigued me that on the packaging of the matzos it read "NOT FOR PASSOVER USE." Jewish tradition for the unleavened bread seemed much stricter.

I recently had the thought that this would be an ideal way of disrupting the memorial. If 3 or 4 of us sat in a row we could polish a glass of wine iff and finish the biscuits. It would mean they'd have to restock half way through and it would disturb that wierd holy holy atmosphere that occurs.
We ate the matzos and polished off the bottle after the memorial every year my dad took it. Wasn't very exciting.

My baptism back into the world - my story
by a wee scots lass ini was raised in 'the truth ' from the age of 9, when my parents came 'into the truth'.
i was the perfect little witness girl, went out in field service - without complaint, gave talks (well the way you do in two's when you are female!
), i was even on the list of people they called on when someone did not turn up to give their talk and would get up with only 30 min prep time!

THEY REALLY ANCHORED YOUR HEAD WITH NONSENSE
by ese inyo - do u see yourself - obsessing about the wtbts or whatever the hell they call themselves - all this beautiful intellect spent on thoughts of an alleged abuser u all allegedly left - oh my - free yourselves - you didn't leave - u r all in this funky stage of mourning and hatred and realization that not all lovers are true - but, forgive my rambling - i have a question here, what do you think they did to mess with your minds so much that u r still obsessing?

Hi ese
Rather than have us speculate on whether or not you're a troll or genuine, why not tell us a bit more about yourself. Did you become a JW, how you came to be a JW, how long you were a JW stuff like that. And I suppose what interested you enough to post on the board.
Cheers

The Porneia debacle of the 80's
by Flash inwho remembers it or worse, suffered from it?.
does anyone remember the wt issue the gb reversed themselves in?
the cd rom doesn't show it.

I seem to recall a discussion of porneia at an elder and servant meeting with a c.o. a few years ago, must have been around 2000. These were usually deadly dull but this one was enlivened when the c.o. read out something from the wtbts about porneia including telephone sex or sex via the internet where the images were live and interactive rather than just pornography.
Do any other elders or servants remember this?

I've finally made a decision
by J.R.R.Watchtower inhi friends!.
i've finally made a decision: i wil leave the wt in december 2004 or january 2005. please let me explain how i would manage this and i will also like to know your point of view or any other thing you would want to say.. i live in spain (as some of you know) in a city where there are 20 congregations.
i think that the elders would like to know the reason why i'm moving to another congregation.

If you're in a city that has 20 congregations there must be at least one that is in a foreign language, at least English. Move there. It would appear to me to be easier to fade there as foreign language congregations tend to have a much higher turnover of publishers. You could say you want to improve your English, or if it's another language, that you want to help out.
And you are not obligated to explain in detail to the Elders your reasons for moving. You can always say you just fancy a change having been in one hall for X amount of years. It might be harder to convince your mother.

Just to add to what LT says:
While I didn't believe that JWs had the truth, I did think they were pretty unique. Then I attended a meeting of th International Chruch of Christ out of nosiness (they'd been recruiting on my campus and had bad press about being a cult in the student paper). I was flabbergasted. While they had some fundamental differences of doctrine, they were amazingly similar in approach to evangelizing, friendliness, morality etc. And they were damned good with their Bibles (on palm pilot no less!). The Witnesses were not so unique as I'd thought.
It's very difficult to make any stab at objectivity if you're attending meetings as you are flooded with information. When I was trying to get my head straight I called a halt to everything and took control, stopping anyone tfrom deluging me with pro or anti faith information. It was truly liberating.
