I've seldomly seen it happen. They practically have to cheat on their wife or something before anything can be done. The "brother" can act like a total dick, show favortism towards others (especially includes appointed certain brother they like as elder and ones they don't like they ignore them no matter how well they qualify), selectively enforce rules on certain ones and ignore them when their buddies are involved. I've even seen some have an explosive temper. Nothing is ever done about it. Do you think that's christian? Do you think that's fair? What are your experiences on this and have you ever seen an elder removed when it wasn't something like drug use, adultery, or anything serious like that? Because from what I've seen, once a brother is appointed elder, it becomes very difficult for him to be removed no matter how corrupt he is.

Can the elders make up stuff to make sure that a brother pretty much never gets to be elder?
by toto555 init's been my observation that if the elders really want a brother to become elder, then they will come up with all the reasons in the world to appoint him.
the reverse is also true.
if the elders really don't want a brother to become elder, then they will make up all sorts of reasons not to appoint him despite perhaps the brothers many years in the truth, great talks, spirituality etc.

Any stories to back this up?

How bad is the nepotism really with the appointments of elders?
by toto555 ini've seen brothers related or who are friends of elders who get appointed after only 6-12 months as an m.s.
while they were other brothers slaving away for years.
elders also who promote their sons and basically say to other young brothers "to heck with everyone else".

Stand for Pure Worship
Actually I have seen this, now it's true the brothers used to be elders years ago but still 6-12 months and you're right back in I don't know about anybody else but something ain't right about that especially when they are ACTIVE SPIRITUAL BROTHERS who give excellent talks who have been serving continuously for many years only to be passed over because they don't have the "right connections". Something just ain't right about that.

Brothers who will not promote brothers under 30 even though there is nothing in the flock book or watchtowers to support this. Just guys making up their own rules. Many more examples of nepotism. What have you seen and is there anyway to stop it or cope with it?

Opinionated Elders
by toto555 ini've seen many elders over the years instead of using god's word to explain how things really are try to use the bully-pulpit on the platform and try to just bully brothers and sisters into their own selfish opinions and then trying to pass them off as fact.
i also here that this goes on further up the chain.
what stories do you all have on this?

I also here that this goes on further up the chain. What stories do you all have on this? Because from what I've seen it's pretty widespread. I mean I've been in meetings with elders and they don't even pick up their Bible sometimes the whole meeting or if they do they'll mention something and then either twist the scriptures or it won't even relate to what they're talking about.

Elders who criticized brothers talks for being TOO strict?
by toto555 indid this ever happen to you?
did you ever try to teach god's word the way it was supposed to be rendered only to deal with elders and others who wanted you to "tone it down" or have your "words seasoned with salt" although you weren't saying anything wrong.
you were just telling the truth and they didn't want to hear it.

Elders = Politicians???
by toto555 inwith all the back-door politics, white-washing of elder mistakes, selective enforcement of rules etc.
aren't elders not much different than any other political position out there in the world (mayor, congressman, senator etc.)?
doesn't the same hold true as well for co, do, etc.?

Doesn't the same hold true as well for CO, DO, etc.? What are everybody's thoughts on this? Aren't they just basicially jw politicians? Stories welcome as well.

If you're a really good speaker, did you ever notice others who were jealous?
by toto555 inso did you as a witness ever notice this?
perhaps if you were being looked at for an elder appointment.
did other elders view you as potential competition?
-
toto555
So did you as a witness ever notice this? Perhaps if you were being looked at for an elder appointment. Did other elders view you as potential competition? Or did they not like the fact tha you just gave better talks then them and that made them look back? Did they even try to hold you back from being elder perhaps by citing some bogus reason? How widespread is this?

Brothers who were held back from being elder for stupid reasons?
by toto555 indo you know of any cases where brothers didn't get to be elder for a stupid/bogus reason even though they otherwise qualified?
do you think some/most appointments are politicially motivated?
how much do you think politics plays in the appointment process versus merit?

Do you know of any cases where brothers didn't get to be elder for a stupid/bogus reason even though they otherwise qualified? Do you think some/most appointments are politicially motivated? How much do you think politics plays in the appointment process versus merit? How about jealousy as a factor? Or brothers who are already elder looking at a potential elder as competition for themselves later on so they either stonewall or even make-up reasons to hold back the appointment? How widespread is all of this?
