where did the gb come up with the idea that one has to know jehovah in order to be saved and survive armageddon?

the new testament is all about the spreading the 'good news of christ', so how did they come up with this crap?.
It's one of their tactics, the more unique they are the better, so when you think something's up you go to...
'But only we use the name Jehovah' 'But Christendom celebrates Christmas/Birthdays/Has the Cross etc...' 'Only we do the preaching work' And so on

the book starts off with the now traditional 'letter from the governing body', it goes through the usual stuff re how wonderful the magazines are, how countless people write in to praise the articles etc etc, but it signs off: "with much love and every good wish...".

Is the letter from the governing body a new thing they do in all books now? This modern GB does seem to like the prominence.
there are many silly doctines and viewpoints.. one of the strangest ones is the blood doctrine.. why anyone could logically accept this belief is beyond reason..

when i was a kid, i researched the origins of the religion and realized that the witnesses were an offshoot of adventism.....we're you surprised to learn something about the witnesses that you didn't realize?.
Discovering they'd misquoted writers to support their views was pretty shocking.

i had an interesting conversation with bobby (*some names have been changed) last weekend.
he's also a successful fader going back several years before me.
but i found we had something in common that i hadn't realized.. bobby had never been particularly happy growing up.

I also don't understand this from an ex-JW perspective. When you realise there was a time when you 'knew it was the truth' and then found out you were wrong, I'm not sure how you can ever feel confident enough to say you 'know' something again...

Slimboyfat: As I understand it they don't teach the anointed are the "generation" any more. That was briefly the teaching for a couple of years, but was dumped in favour of an "overlapping generation" of the general population from 1914 stretching God knows how long into the future.
The exact wording from the Society was:
"John Barr made clear that the gathering would not continue indefinitely. He referred to Matthew 24:34, which says: "This generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur." He twice read the comment: "Jesus evidently meant that the lives of the anointed ones who were on hand when the sign began to be evident in 1914 would overlap with the lives of the other anointed ones who would see the start of the great tribulation." We do not know the exact length of "this generation," but it includes these two groups whose lives overlap. Even though the anointed vary in age, those in the two groups constituting the generation are contemporaries during the part of the last days. How comforting it is to know that the younger anointed contemporaries of those older anointed ones who discerned the sign when it became evident beginning in 1914 will not die off before the great tribulation starts!"
Although they will no doubt move the goalposts when time requires, it's quite clear that what they are saying is: The current members of the Governing Body are not going to die off before the end.
in an effort to get some help and hopefully help others, i'd like to start this thread about psychology, specifically starting with the subject of anger management.. .
personally, i don't have much of a temper.

Thank you Billy, for taking the time to write that, I'm not desperate to pull my parents out either, although as you say, it would be the ideal, but I accept their choices.
I just want to live a normal relationship with them, one where every conversation doesn't descend into an argument... understanding and respect would do me, I hope to get that with time.
