Would you accept blood?
by JH inwould you give blood if there was an urgent need for it?
and if you were the one who needed blood, would you accept it?

For planned surgery I'd prefer to store my own blood, but for an accident I'd take donated blood no problem - dying right there and then or running a tiny risk and maybe getting full-blown AIDS years and years down the line? It's that simple for me. Even if I got something from donated blood I'd be glad for the extra time I wouldn't have had otherwise.
And there is always an urgent need for blood donors - so few people donate but almost everyone would want to recieve blood products.
They don't want my blood because I have an illness, but when I'm well again I'll be a regular donor if they'll have me.

WT goofie phrases.
by Pepper ini used to get into trouble for making light of the these phrases that some elders have told me are to be used only gods people.
lol that you all may know maybe:.
"well, brother that is very "commendable," just before the meeting ends the po says to those in attendance "brothers the time left is reduced," i once heard a co say to those seated during one of his talks "well now, we don't want to die at armageddon now do we, well of course not.

"young ones", "unbaptized ones", "elderly ones", "spiritually weak ones"
Not people - ones. That gets on my nerves.

I don't get it!
by Lin ini've been hearing a big uproar in the media about schools banning harry potter books, and parents who refuse to let their kids read it, etc.
what's the big deal?!
when i was growing up, we had bewitched, i dream of jeannie, casper, etc.

Also, the titles to the potter books had to be changed here in usa, the current one chamber of scerets, is called chamber of demons in the rest of the world. (per an interview i saw with him)
Who said that?! No it isn't! The title that was changed was the first book - maybe the publishers didn't think American readers know what a philosopher is?
There is *nothing* wrong with Harry Potter books. There's nothing in them that wasn't in the Lord of the Rings, or the Chronicles of Narnia, the Oz books - nothing that hasn't been part of children's stories since time began. The scary and violent stuff isn't a patch on Grimm's Fairy Tales and nowhere near the horrific violence and cruelty in the Bible!
The religious types are probably just jealous kids actually *want* to read *these* books of fairy stories.

Never been up close to a baptism pool (thank Jeebus!), but I always assumed the water had chlorine in it like a swimming pool.
If they don't - eeeeew!

Donkey's never-ending atheism thread
by donkey inwih the permission of simon, i would like to start a thread to act as a collection of thought, quotes and miscellany on atheism and agnosticism.
there are so many other threads on this subject but no one place which one can go to on here.
i have much to share - enjoy and contribute with me please.give me the storm and stress of thought and action rather than the dead calm of ignorance and faith.

At first I thought "It's bad enough when somebody you love dies and you keep thinking you see them in the street, without *actually* seeing them in the street!" but you only look the way you do because of facial muscles, bone and fat - I suppose the recipient will just look more-or-less like they would have anyway. It's just skin.
No family visiting the body and no open coffin though. Internal organ donation doesn't prevent that.
