If you wish to write a letter to disconnect any theoretical attachment to the JW's, why not. You are not playing by their rules. You are making a statment that you want nothing to do with that awful organization. you don't have to use the word disassociate. I didn't. In fact I will associate with anyone I want to, as long as they also want to do so. Writing the letter was very cathartic for me, and no doubt others. In concept, "fading" works, if it's just a case of living your own life and not giving a damn if the Elders DF you, but in theory from what I see it really does not work out like that many times. Faders are always complaining about elders trying to talk to them. They might feel pressure to go to some meetnig like the memorial when a friend or relative asks them to do so. Fading is really playing by the society's rules, because it forces an individual to hide, to still be, at least in a theoretical way, members of the organization. And if they still have a thumb down on you, your are theirs.

What are the benifits of DA? Should I DA?
by zucker ini'm wondering if i should just "come out of the closet" and tell my family i don't believe it anymore and da myself or don't make any noise and fade out?
what are the benefits or problems with either choice?
additionally, some have expressed concern over da.

Neon:
I ask this only because I visited a LOT of churches after leaving the borg, and I still haven't found any that conform to this oft-repeated JW stereotype.
I agree. I haven't been to many services, only a few, but money hasn't been an issue in any of the places I've been in. I go to Vedanta Centers some time (a kind of NeoHinduism I guess you could say), and they usually have a place to put money, but that is the end of the matter, unless you are actually a dues paying member of the Vedanta Society that runs the activities in that particular city. I can see why people have issues with Chruches and money. All to often religions have become bloated institutions while their practitioners suffer from want, but I don't think that is the case with many if not most Religions organizations. The fact is that it does cost money to run a Church/Mandir/Mosque/Synagogue and these costs have to be supported by those attending. If a person feels too much is being asked of them by some group, then they shouldn't attend.

the WT tried to control all aspects of a person's life. Remember that green "Family Life" book? I recall it even had the approved position for copulation listed in it somewhere. It involved both members laying on their sides facing each other. Sounds too complicated and difficult for me, but maybe that is just me. I actually wish I still had that book so I could find the quote.

These books don't bother me any more than a story telling about the Buddhist/Catholic/Satanic/Vampire/Mormons/Atheist/Indians/Martians/yada.yada.yada. point of view.
I cant speak for most of these views, but the Buddhist, Athiest, Indian (and no doubt Martian) point of view does not involve a horrid murderous creator-god-monster who chooses people for "saving" based more or less on their ethno-religious upbringing and leaves the rest to suffer or have eventual doom. Fundamentalism is a VERY dangerous pill no matter how sugar coated it may be, and in the end there really is little difference between a Fundie muslim, hindu, Chrstian, or anything else. Left-Behind is fiction, assuredly, as is most of the bible. But people believe in both. I would not be a bit suprised if some Left-Behind fan starts to wonder what he can do to help move forward the "Rapture". That is why chrstian zionists wish to keep Jerusalem in Jewish hands, for instance.

they all went into the dumpster, cept for the bible. I kept it as a reference book, even though it is a flawed translation.

When did the world develop many different languages?
by gumby in(genesis 11:1,6-9) in the days of babel, generations after the flood, the world had one common language.
god "confused the tongues" to create many.
(genesis 10:5) prior to babel, the bible speaks of many "nations", each with its own language ?.

I cant believe that people in the modern world take this stuff literally today. If there was a tower somewhere in the world that all the people lived in, and then got scatterd, a few scant thousand years ago, how do fundamentalist christians account for the fact that people were living all over the world and have been there for thousands of years. Even if discounting their own records, how to fundies account for groups like the Aboriginies of Austrailia, the Polynesians, .. Amerindians from Alaska to Tierra Del Fuego. Its ludicrous.

It's had many translators. Don't know Farkel's favorite. I'm out of town right now and have no access to my books, but this online one is good:

Very very small book.
