And I was born here, too, in Johannesburg, HenryP. I know a million times more about Zulu/Xhosa/Pedi/Sotho/Sepedi (go on, look them up in an Encyclopaedia) culture than you do, and I also know how incredibly degraded the women in those cultures are from first hand experience, not some book. I've lived here my whole life, and believe you me, you have no clue as to what it's like to see a woman sold to her husband on her wedding day.

Do you want me to send you my South African telephone number so you can phone me at my desk right now????? *GRRRRRR* If you'd read ANY of my previous posts on the boards, where I mention numerous times I stay in Johannesburg, you would see I'm telling the Tr00f. I've seen so much bad stuff happening, and the 80 year old (OK, she was old, but not THAT old, maybe 60 or 70, but still much older than all of the Elders) woman was the least of my problems, really. Surely if you read more than half of my post you would understand what I am trying to get at.

When I was in the BOrganization I saw some hectic, HECTIC stuff go down, and that was one of the worst things I can possibly imagine happening to a woman.
And STILL HenryP doesn't respond in kind. Perhaps he knows he's beaten? Sorry, I had to switch to my other handle as I hit my postcap.

i'm wondering how many of you took a while to gather up the courage to dispose of your cupboard loads of watchtowers and awakes, that you'd stored away for........safe keeping????.
we probably hung on to ours for a few months and then we burned them.
there was a tinge of apprehension about it, but it was generally a very satisfying activity.
Isn't it kinda cool that most of the people here replaced 100KG+ of books with a CDROM that weighs a few grams? I wonder what old Charles Tazey Boy would have thought about that...my mom still keeps a sh*tload of the old books, Revelation, all the annotated references, mags, you name it! We just never bothered to throw them away when I left and she drifted...if you open them up now (esp. the study books such as Revelation) you will find highlighter and pen markings that are many years old, and faded, and the occasional note in the margin (never any of my notes tho). When I see stuff like this it reminds me of just how distant that OTHER me was, the one who was underlining all that stuff in his childhood, not truly understanding it, but wanting to believe, and having no choice about the matter...I think all of us have come very far if we are able to throw away or even burn these writings. This means that the grip of the WTBTS programming is weakening inside us, which is an amazing, liberating thing.
part 3: the october surprise!
jws were very eager about world events peace and security: the worldwide pronouncement of peace and security has been a prophetic mantra of the jw religion since before i became associated in 1968. and now, at long last, it was finally upon us!

as a refresher i touched on these:.
Hey BB! Ignore all the people who are telling you to grow up, I know that you are just in for a laugh, and what a fine way to get back at the Society for all those insanely boring wasted years, is my opinion.
1. Ask if you can handle the microphones, then shove them violently into people's faces. (Somehow I doubt that they'll let you...)
2. Stick your hand up in the Public Talk.
3. Stick your hand up during a 5 minute Theocratic Ministry School talk. (Hehe, watch the young brother sweat!)
4. Start saying your Rosary out loud in the front row during the meeting.
5. Bring worry beads and knead them constantly and loudly.
6. Wear a giant, bright red Mexican hat and a blanket.
7. Take along a few very young children who have just reach the crawling stage, and let them go in the hall for lots of lauhgs.
8. Wear crotchless pants and a silver G-String. (I've actually seen people dressed like this in Johannesburg...Good Lord)
9. Wear a Gay Pride T-Shirt.
10. Wear a Sarong.
11. Stick a large, prominent Colt gun into your pants and make sure that it sticks out enough to identify.
12. Take a notepad, highlighters, and other stationery and pretend to scribble furiously and underline stuff during the meeting, then when it's over, shout out: "Was that it? I'm not done yet!!!"
13. Put your feet up on the seats in front of you. Bonus points for putting some poor sisters head in between them, and even more bonus points if you do this whilst barefooted.
i recently admitted to a jw back in wisconsin that we no longer go to meetings.
i told her that we have not disassociated but we do not think of ourselves as jws anymore.
i had been close friends with this person since 1974. .
Well it isn't surprising, considering they have zero to do besides go to meetings and try to make new converts.
i wish to present three situations that are true to life and open up a discussion on these different scenarios and how would would personally act toward them.. 1) a 75 year old person has been a jw for the past 40 years.
most of their friends are jws.
they look forward to the fellowship at the meetings and though the congregation is far from perfect, they are pleased with the fact that they have a purpose in life.
I've never personally experienced anything like this, but my feeling is that if you want to remain in a fairy tale world, then hell, it's your life, buddy, enjoy it while it lasts.
Like some others have said above, humanity DOES have a problem facing reality a lot of the time, and organized religion is often one way of doing this. Deluding oneself with impossible visions of a "Paradise Earth", and not dealing with real-life problems such as poverty, hunger, and other human rights crises is very, very wrong.
Humans are humans because of our frontal lobes - if you don't use them, you are beneath my contempt People who indulge in fairy tales and ignore hard logic are pitiful, but often they are beyond the ability of ANYONE to help (as might even be the case with these people hillary mentions).
However, the most stupid, unsalvageable people of all are those who KNOW that the Troof is a giant lie and ocntinue to co-exist in it, and even promote it's causes. I can't believe some people would actually do this, for any reason whatsoever.
Many people do have families and support networks in the Troof that they will miss terribly (thanks to that laudable practice (sp?), shunning) if they were ever to leave, but that's no excuse. I would rather lose ALL of my family (figuratively - if they all had to die I would make some sacrifices, but here I'm just talking about shunning) and friends than live a lie again the way I was forced to a few years back. I'm just not built to handle it.
I would rather be a free cocroach than a lion in a cage.
