  so today i'm driving home and a block from my house there's a boy on the ground.

  he'd been hit by a car while riding his bike.

  everyone had stopped and i ran up to help if i could.

  i'm in a speech class in college and would like to make full use of it to expose jw's as much as possible, but in a respectable manner that won't get me in trouble with the professor.

  i've decided to speak on whether or not it's okay for parents to refuse life-saving medical treatment for their children.

  i was interested in what particular arguments hold the most weight with you.

  has anyone here joined oa or any of its sister organizations?

  i know i'm a compulsive eater - i can remember sneaking food when i was 8 or 9 years old, and it's just gotten worse from there on out.

  i went to my first oa meeting last saturday and have (amazingly) managed to remain "abstinent" (three meals a day with nothing in between) for almost the entire week.

  i'm not a big peta supporter - i think they too often only tell one side of the story - but if you read virgil butler's statement i think you'll find there aren't too many ways to look at the situation that would put it in a good light.

  dry ice bombs shoved up a chicken's rectum so it would blow apart, chickens scalded to death in so much pain that their eyes pop out of their heads, live chickens having their wings and legs ripped off by sadistic employees - it makes me sick.

  Urgent Legal Help Needed: Asylum for a Minor

  i'm going to be very vague and stick to just the most essential details (for reasons you will see):.

  i am aware of a 17 year old (parents are dubs, he doesn't want to be but is forced to go to mtgs) who has been suicidal and asked a friend to come and get him from his home.

  he left a note to his parents saying he is safe, etc., but his parents are already fairly sure of where he is.

  i feel like absolute s*(& after a long conversation with my sister this afternoon.

  she's in the org.

  and told me that if i won't have a relationship with my parents then she won't have one with me.

  A Great Ex-JW Reunion!!

  my hiusband and i left the organization almost a year ago.

  since then, i've thought many times of a friend who had da'd herself about 4 years ago.

  a few weeks after she'd da'd herself we passed in a bathroom at a local store.

  Are you patriotic?

  tonight my husband and i watched the fireworks for the 4th of july.

  i've never done this before, save for occasionally peering out of my window as a child hoping to see a few.

  tonight was wonderful - beautiful, fun, and there were tons of people there who were behaving themselves at least as well as people behave at assembly.

  Got myself into a heck of a mess...please help!

  do you ever just want to kick yourself, really hard, preferrably down a flight of stairs?

  (no suicidal tendencies here, just frustration with myself!

  ) i am such a people pleaser, have been all my life (no doubt in part due to being a very faithful jw for 24 years of my 25 years of life) and it seems to get me into so much crap.

  Depression, Suicide, Abusive Parents

  this is my first time posting...i've been lurking for awhile.

  i "faded away" in september and my mental health has greatly improved, although i still struggle with a somewhat-controlled eating disorder.

  i have a long history of mental health problems, from the time i was about 20. i was raised "in the truth" and my parents were very emotionally/verbally abusive.
