  in the late 1960s and early 1970s, i wrote my study, 1914 and all that.

  in it, i stated that at matthew 24 jesus warned his followers against seeing wars, earthquakes and famines as being signs.

  i have not wavered from that position, which i have given in my posts here at times.. .

  I love how the JW Apologist Fundy's step around plainly stated texts in their own bible and then play mental hopscotch with passages that they have never read apart from the Watchtowers take on it.

  Forget all of this nonsense about Matt 24 because at the very most, it only has application for the Jews and Jewish system that came to its end in 70 CE. Any further application is purely a fanciful trip of the human mind on mushrooms.

  Why don't you Fundy's just take a breath?

  Why would a man who condemned people (a generation actually) who sought signs as "wicked" and "twisted" and then turn around and provide just such a sign for a future generation?

  How does that make sense? Don't cite more proof texts, just deal with the irony?

  Either Jesus is bipolar and wants to confuse people with logical reasoning minds, or he didn't give a sign.

  Very simple passage when you take off the Watchtower Rose colored glasses....

  What theif would let the householder know he was about to break in and rob them?

  More importantly to me is why would Jesus condemn as "wicked" a generation that "keeps seeking for a sign" (Matt 12:38) and then proceed to give his followers a detailed sign to live in expectation of and like JW's keep seeking?

  It never dawns on drones like Reniaa (myself included because I used to taunt these boards as a Fundy JW apologist) that the very intelligence being mocked by Paul is the same type of winsome oratory and over the top intellectualism spewed by the Watchtower writing staff. Arguments meant to bully, extort and control. Much of what they write or reason is nothing more than "debates over words" and "violent disputes over trifles" (or leading to violence, the violence being shown to the one being tossed out)

  Try this one on, "For example, to one there is given through the spirit speech of wisdom, to another speech of knowledge according to the same spirit, 1 Cor 12:8-9)

  Reniaa needs to take the next step in her exodus from the JW's. Her first was fellowshipping with us (as I did). The next step is to take a look at the context around these proof texts she uses.

  The next step just might take her off the broad and comfortable road she is to the cramped and narrow path that most of us have taken.

  Anyone can pull Paul out of their arse when it suits their purpose. Why don't you scan down in your JW bible and consider the ramifications to JW mind control from other expressions such as these:

  Now to me it is a very trivial matter that I should be examined by YOU or by a human tribunal (1 Cor 4:3)

  Who employs Human tribunals, or courts made up of 3 judges? Could it be the superfines?

  "Do not go beyond the things that are written," in order that YOU may not be puffed up individually in favor of the one against the other. (1 Cor 4:6)

  Where does the bible condemn a blood transfusions, or if Abstaining from blood was intended to cover Blood transfusions, where does the bible permit certain parts of it to be exempt?

  Or Where does the bible condemn military service? Paul didn't seem to object, " Who is it that ever serves as a soldier at his own expense?" (1 Cor 9:7)

  Not a very practical illustration to an audience of conscientious objectors!

  " Everything that is sold in a meat market keep eating, making no inquiry on account of YOUR conscience... proceed to eat everything that is set before YOU, making no inquiry on account of YOUR conscience" (1 Cor 10:25,27)

  Doesn't sound like anything the Watchtower ever told us to do. We had drama's showing people interrogating Pizza parlors about their meat!

  At least you are thinking. We are all rooting for you.

  JW's have to get past their arrogance and realize that they do not have a monopoly on the concept of apostacy.

  So true! (Actually their take on apostates and Apostasy is quite inaccurate)

  But the Dubs do seem to be monopolizing the False prophet spot of our times. At least in the forefront!

  "Apostasy is abandoning or deserting the worship

  and service of God, actually a rebellion against Jehovah God.

  Some apostates profess to know and serve God but reject teach-

  ings or requirements set out in his Word. Others claim to

  believe the Bible but reject Jehovah's organization."

  I like quotes like this as the knife cuts both ways. As a JW I had to ask myself, is there ever a time that obedience to conscience, God or the bible would mean disagreement with the Watchtower? That very question underlies why Jesus found himself at odds with the religious community of his time, as did Paul and many others.

  JW's quickly nod their heads in agreement to the reasoning book definition, because they believe first in this concept of an "Organization" that can "save" and that thru it they can enjoy Gods favour and have the correct bible based belief system to follow. The Org must always be right, even when it is wrong. Like Paul said, those who measure themselves by themselves.....

  Here though is one place that it truly cuts the other way. Luke 21:8 " He said: "Look out that YOU are not misled; for many will come on the basis of my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The due time has approached.’ Do not go after them"

  Name one other religious group active any time over the last 20 centuries that has been so adamant about this due time having approached!

  Coupled with the warning to beware of false prophets, it seems the Hallmarks of the Antichrist and the Watchtower are one and the same.

  I love the occasional cigar. It is a pleasure with little ill effect if done properly. Smoking cigarettes is another thing altogether, although some do it occasionally and even others do it to relieve constipation. (I would be more concerned about the constipation personally)

  But the question raised initially is mute since the whole concept of "New System" and "Human Perfection" are simply nothing more than artfully contrived stories that seek to sell to followers and other gullible persons, the spiritual materialism of the Watchtower.

  Like my mom and dad used to say, "why do today what you can put off until the future (er um New System)". (education, career, family etc....smoking?)

  But in this case I would argue the reverse. Have a smoke now if inclined and enjoy life while you have it.

  Awakewned makes some excellent points on the JW voodoo word "Apostate".

  Apostates are said to be Liars, deceptive, and vengeful, ie "evil slave" w87 7/1p.22par.8 and are out to get loyal JW's. One article some years back described the apostates "methods" such as handing out leaflets, placarding meetings and assemblies and more. Yet all of these "methods" had been and some still are employed by the Witnesses.

  Yet the word simply means to leave or repudiate ones former faith or beliefs. Some apostates by that definition could very well be Liars, deceptive and vengeful, but certainly not all would be. To say so would be ridiculous and yet the WT does just that.

  To blindly defend the WT position on Apostasy here is to ignore the very points that Awakened makes. Paul was called Apostate, so were Jews who simply left Judaism and naturally many JW's today had to "apostatize" from their former belief systems and religions. The word does not make them Liars, evil etc!

  I would like to point out that 2 people singled out in WT publications as "apostate" from the bible were Hy·me·nae´us and Phi·le´tus. (The word is not used in the bible passage, but the connection is made by WT dozens of times ie w04 2/15p.28 )

  Paul described these men to Timothy as "These very [men] have deviated from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already occurred; and they are subverting the faith of some". (2 Tim 2:18)

  Any outside or inside WT observer can recognise that JW's and their leaders teach the Resurrection has "ALREADY" occurred just like Hymanaeus and Philetus did. Firstly they teach that it started soon after 1914 and that it happens every time an "anointed" partaker dies right up until the present.

  Why don't JW's go to the apostates and prove them wrong as Jesus did?

  jesus accepted the spirit's invitation to go into the desert and be tempted by satan.. he proved his faith and proved satan wrong.. why don't they follow jesus's example?.

  why are they so frightened to have their faith tested?.

  jw's used to be always on offense when it came to debate.. they are now mostly on defense..

  q: how does tennis star serena williams justify wearing such sexy clothes when she's a jehovah's witness?

  - ron ryden, riverview, fla.. a: the winner of 10 grand slam singles titles dresses conservatively when attending kingdom hall services, but there's no religious dress code preventing her from wearing revealing clothes on or off the court.. .

  i wonder who wrote the answer to that question because that is not how i remember the jw "dress code.

  I found a JW (pseudo really) on Facebook who had pictures of him with a Convention lapel card and dressed up with his wife/gf. He is a gangsta rapper and his rapper name incorporates someone who had committed serious crimes.

  So I wrote him and asked him how he could justify being a JW and Rapper at he same time given the strong stance the cult has against rap music especially. The reasoning and response was priceless and typical denial. Showing him quotations from the publications got me the silent treatment.

  For people like the Serena Williams and others like Prince, is that the full weight of the cult's unwritten laws are only applied gradually after they become more and more committed members. If Serena was to quit being in the spot light and chose to pioneer or pursue other so called priviledges then you would see more heavy handed efforts to control her.

  Sad really, because if someone was to tell her the way it is for most women in the JW's, her mind can only at this point grasp how it is or has been in her personal experience. Never thinking that one day 2 busy body elders will read her the riot act.

  Our two top Pioneers were disfellowshiped for immorality this week!

  sitting at the meeting this week the brother on stage said elder a_____ has an anouncement....we all know what that means disfellowshiping!

  {this elder i spoke with before the meeting and he did look stressed} "brother b______ is no longer a jehovahs witness" sister c____ is no longer a pioneer and has been reproved..." wtf!

  brother a ____ spends every waking moment witnessing, he's alittle irratating with every sentence containing the term "jehovah.

  That is funny. You know this is the one time that the rumor mill in the JW's is most accurate. Your feelings about what happened are only altered if the next needs of the congregation talk is on smoking tobacco or the danger of Ouija boards......unless JW's are allowed to do that now...LOL
