:::Stocks shelves overnight at Walmart? Oh my.
On one level I agree with you, yet this is also one of the things I admire about Charlene. She is truly determined to make sure she can comply with what she believes are "God's" requirements. To this end, she has taken a menial position as a night stocker so she can be available for her meetings and study. That shows character, IMO. Misguided, yes. But she is really trying, and I admire that. -

One more thought... she was linked on this site before, and when she followed her referrers and found us talking about her, she took it as proof that Satan was plotting to destroy her faith using the evil apostates. No joke. It scared her really bad. So if you can still edit, I would personally request that you make the link NOT clickable, so she doesn't see a huge number of referrers from here and think Satan is after her again.

I've been following her blog for nearly a year. She started out with good questions, and research in other materials. Gradually she has been indoctrinated, grown more fearful and finally about 2 months ago, she deleted her entire space and started all over. The previous space had some truly fascinating and insightful posts, both from Charlene and from some of her readers regarding what she was learning, as well as JW methods. She tried really hard to respond honestly and do her research, but at some point she was the subject of a very intensive series of counseling sessions from her BS conductor and the elders regarding her continuing contact with "apostates."
She was told that if she didn't cut off her association through her blog that they would not continue to be "friends." She complied mostly, removed her space so she wouldn't "stumble" anyone, but is still retaining a little of her individuality by rebelling and maintaining her space in its new form. I question how long that will last. As of right now she believes she is complying by having her "rules," but my bet is that her space will have to come down before the elders will consider her for baptism. For the record, her "mess-ups" involve having a couple of drinks, the occasional joint and talking to her ex-boyfriend and answering the emails of potential apostates. -

What does it take to make my sister to stop shunning me? High Gas Prices!
by Elsewhere ini recently received a very odd email from my devout-jw sister who has been shunning me since 1998. it is that "the price of gas is too high so lets stop buying gas from exxon and mobil to start a price war" email.
i'm sure many of you have seen it.. therefore, what does it take to make my jw sister stop shunning me?
simple: high gas prices!

Rent vs. Buying a house
by Elsewhere in.
i have started thinking about buying a house again.
something that drives me nuts is the fact that i can't seem to get a straight answer out of anyone as to whether or not owning a house would be financially better than renting an apartment.. things to take into consideration:how much i pay in rent.how much rent increases each year.how much i pay in renters insurance.how much a mortgage would be.how much pmi or an 80 / xx mortgage would be.how much i would have to take from or borrow from my 401ks and iras for a down payment.how much i will have to pay in penalties for taking money from my 401ks and iras.how much money l will loose by not having that 401k money earning interest.how much maintenance on the property will cost.how much insurance will cost.how much i will be paying in property taxes.how much in "freebies" i will get from the seller (they will pay $xxx in closing costs if i use their mortgage company).other crap i haven't thought of yet.. it seems like everyone i talk to has their own agenda and they all give me different results based on they want me to do so they will get more money from me.

Elsewhere, from everything I've read from financial advisors, it's unwise to take $$ from your 401k or other retirement income to buy a house. Yes, buying a house is an investment, but it is one that is seldom realized on the primary residence. Buying a house is a forced savings plan if you are undisciplined, but if you have the willpower to stick to a budget, renting can also have advantages.
My husband recommends a book called "The Wealthy Barber" as a starting point for determining which one is to your best advantage. Good luck! Every spring we get the bug to flip the house and buy another... commonsense keeps us put for another year though.
