Mis-quotes
by barbar inthe other day i read about a bible commentator who was upset that the wtbts has mis-quoted him.
they had said he felt the nwt was a good translation and he had not.
can't remember where i read it or who he was.. do you have any recollections of times that they had quoted experts in their field and misled the wt readers by implying that the expert supported the wtbts when in fact they had not.

Maternal Instinct
by barbar init is often thought that a mother has an instinct to protect her child.
so much so that she may become extremely violent when faced with a situation that may damage her chidren.. this is not just anger but a deep instinctive emotion, that is stronger in women than men.. why?
if we were created perfect, with no danger around us.

Why? If we were created perfect, with no danger around us. If our children would not be harmed by animals, disease, war, etc. Then where did this instinct come from? Why would a God give women this if they did not need it?

"What would happen to a jw, if proved gb was not given special authority?"
by Check_Your_Premises ini posed this question to my tbjw (true believer jehovah's witness) wife:.
"what if it was proved to you without a doubt (i conceded that this was not possible) that the gb had no special mandate or guidance from hs?
what if they were just like anyone else who reads the bible alot?

"The Jimmy Swaggart case was the first thing that was proven to me and I flat out didn't believe it until I saw the online documents for myself."
What Jimmy swaggart case? Plus if any one can tell me how to paste quotes in the nice yellow block i'll be very happy. Well a little bit happy anyway.

Does the jelly mould theory hold water?
by barbar ini recall the idea that just like a jelly mould that has a dent all of the jellies will also be dented.
therefore just as adam was imperfect we to would have the imperfection.. if a cook makes a faulty jelly, is it the jelly that would be blamed?
no, it is the cook for using sub-standard tools or materials.. the same is true with adam, the faulty materials should have been replaced immediately, it is no good blaming the offspring of adam and making them pay for his faults.. i never could understand the suggestion that we had to pay for adams sin.

I was only thinking about this yesterday.
If I made a Jelly from a dented mould, it would not be the jelly that was wrong, it would be me. If I wanted pefect Jellies then I should replace the mould. It would foolish to use a damaged mould then expect anything different than a damaged Jelly.
All doctors know that it is better to treat them problem not the symtoms, so if Adam was "faulty" then he should have been removed and a new one in place

Do you think of yourself as an apostate
by barbar inmany of the people on this site say that they are apostates.
but that is not the way i feel about myself.. i am not angry with the "witnesses" or the organisation, i don't feel that i wasted my life.
i just think that i was stupid to believe it for 30 years (well sort of believe it, i did have severe doubts on and off).

barbar
Yes, but I am not asking whether you agree with the societies definition of the word apostate?
My question was more about whether you feel it right to let others live their religion as they please or that you feel it is better to try and let current JWs know they are wrong.

I am not angry with the "witnesses" or the organisation, I don't feel that I wasted my life. I just think that I was stupid to believe it for 30 years (well sort of believe it, I did have severe doubts on and off). I don't see it as my mission to tell others that they were wrong, although if it comes up in conversation I will say my true feelings, that JWs are wrong as is all religion.
I have been out for about 6years, and although each day gets easier I look at this site as a community of like people. I am interested to see others ideas and it is often comforting to know that you are not alone. But I just don't feel the anger that I see in so many people on this forum.
I never try to talk my mother out of the religion, I feel that although she has a false hope, it is better than the emptiness she would feel at her time of life if she no longer was a witness. If she was 30 years younger then maybe (but then I would only be 11).
But the question is, do you think of yourself as an apostate? By apostate I mean that you are proactively anti Jehovah's Witness or the beliefs.
Do you think it is better to turn all witnesses away from the "truth", as they see it?

I have been worrying about this recently and wondered how my own mother's funeral would take place, my father and my 2 brothers are no longer witnesses, but I am the only one who is DF'd. The topic has confirmed the nightmare situation that many of us may have to go through.
I am really sorry about your situation and the extra pain that was caused you.

The Watchtower's Dilemma
by metatron indilemma (n.) - a situation involving choice between equally unsatisfactory alternatives.. .
that's exactly where the governing body - and directors- find themselves.. they are becoming painfully aware of growing malaise and lack of growth in the organization.. in response, they could:.
scream louder about armageddon being close ( not likely to work).

Most of you are mislead. There is no dilemma.
Just because it is plain to you that threy are struggling, does not mean that those still in the org recognise it.
There have always been a high turnover of witnesses and there always will be . But there are are also many faithful ones who will stick with it whatever. I am absolutely conviced that people believe what they want to believe. The "Society" can shed "new light" which destroys the old light (e.g. the generation) yet most people will dismiss such major changes despite having based their whole life on the old meaning.
If you look at the beliefs of 130 years ago, they bear little resemblance to today, the WT has managed to teach conflicting beliefs as truth and is remarkably good at evolving to suit the times that it is operarting in.
I don't see any reason why that will change in the near future.

Now you dont believe the Bible , which characters sound dodgy?
by sleepy inwhen you stop believing the bible to be the word of god the motives behind the actions of gods prophets and followers come across rather differently.
in fact much like fundlmentlists today.you have joshua comiting genocide , and paul moving in and tacking control of the christians and changing the religion to his own beliefs.
which other characters actions can be interpreted differenly when you see them just as ordinary humans with more selfish motives?

I always wondered why the WT said that other writers of bible times exagerated and the bible did not.
Yet the israelites had the strongest man ever, the oldest man ever, the wisest man ever.
