A while ago my mother said that if the society asked the JWs to do something that was wrong they wouldn't do it. But I'm sure they would. It is already easy for them to go against their own consciences, many don't feel it is right to shun others but they do it because they are told to. Most would feel dreadful with letting their children die but would do it if blood was needed because the society tells them to. So how far would they go? Would they go to the extreme of say suicide bombings if they were told that God had revealed that thy should do this? Would they go to the extreme of say what the Branch Davidiands did? My feeling is that many would without hesitation. What do you think?

They can!!!
I specifically wrote to bethel when I was 19 ( a long time ago I'm afraid)and asked if it was OK for me to join the police force and was told that it was a conscience matter. I wrote because a person who had left the police force when he became a JW told it was wrong to join the Police and a serving police officer who was still a JW said it was OK.
This was in the UK and guns at that stage were not part of the std police force. By the way, I applied by was not selected so it never mattered anyway.

Who's choice is disfellowshipping really?
by barbar inoften jws say that it is a person who made the decision to stop talking to friends and family by their actions.
it was not the fault of the religion as they were left with no choice because the person had deliberatly decided to turn agaianst jehovah and they took a decision to cut their friends and family off.. so consider this scenario.. a jw is disfellowshipped and never reinstated, 10 years later his family become jws.
at this point his family cannot speak to him becuase they are told not to by the elders.. was there any decision on his part to not speak to his family?

Often JWs say that it is a person who made the decision to stop talking to friends and family by their actions. So consider this scenario.
A JW is disfellowshipped and never reinstated, 10 years later his family become JWs. At this point his family cannot speak to him becuase they are told not to by the elders.
Was there any decision on his part to not speak to his family? NO!
It was "the society" (what kind of title is that for a religion or a caring organisation?) who have dictated who can and cannot speak to each other it was never a deliberate action on the person's part.

your ultimate goal has been the realization of an intimate union in which there could be love, self-sacrifice and mutual trust.

Utmost in your mind is success. You are constantly seeking stimulation and a life full of experience. You are trying to 'grow' and above all you need to develop freely and to shake off the shackles of self-doubt. You are an enthusiastic individual, full of life with the desire to live intensely. You like contact with others and are enthusiastic by nature. You are receptive to anything new, modern or intriguing. Your interests are many and you are likely to expand your fields of activities. You are optimistic about the future and you deserve every success because deep down you are a 'winner'.
You are very orderly, methodical and self sufficient. You demand and need the respect, recognition and understanding of all those who enter into your sphere on influence.
Being a very proud individual, you tend to hold yourself aloof pretending that you are stoical - indifferent to pain and pleasure. This is not so, for in truth you are an extremely emotional individual, one that may make a hasty decision and perhaps regret it at leisure. It is time now to break the bond of detachment and be the 'you' that you would like to be - give vent to your emotions and enjoy yourself.
You are being unduly influenced by the situation that is all around you. You do not like the feeling of loneliness and whatever it is that seems to separate you from others. You know that life can be wonderful and you are anxious to experience life in all its aspects, to live it to the full. You therefore resent any restriction or limitations that are being imposed on you and you insist on going it alone.
You don't like authority and you rebel against all forms of limitation. You are your own person and you intend to stay that way and to get on in the world simply by your hard work and determination.
It was pretty accurate except for the bit about orderly and methodical. Not very proud either. But I would probably have a hard job repeating the sequense of colours agan, so I am not convinced my choice was accurate or scientific.

Who is directing them?
by barbar injws claim to be led by god.
he is directing their organisation by his spirit.. they believe that smoking is wrong, in fact a disfellowshipping offense.
so why did god not tell them that smoking was wrong?.

Why was it scientists, who they only agree with when it suits them, who gave them this spiritual insight?

Tonight I saw a group of people having a barbecue on the beach, from a distance I thought "I bet they are religious". As I walked to my car there was oen of the group preaching to the rest about Peter walking on water and when he started to sink Jesus shot his hand out and saved him. He said this showed Jesus love. He then went on to talk about Jesus love for quite a while. It got me thinking, as a JW the point of this story was to emphasise faith, but for this other religious group it was to emphasise love. The same story but different meaning depending on what is more important to you.
Clearly Witnesses have more interest in belief or faith (blind faith often) than they do love.
To be honest the whole religious thing repels me now whatever the beliefs, but I thought that it was interesting to see the contrast in application of a scripture.
BTW I just learned how to quote can't believe it was so simple but I could never do it.

Meek Shall Inherit the earth
by golden age in.
i was talking to a witness the other day and i was explaining from revelation how there is only one calling to heaven and there is not an earthly calling.
and the jw asked me to explain the verse from pslam which states teh meek shall inherit the earth and reside in it forever, any one have any scripture to refute his argument.

Are the 144,000 mot meek then/ Because if they are then they should also be inheriting the earth.

Just can't get this out of my head
by jt stumbler inbeing recently self-dissassociated, i cannot get out of my head something that happened to me more than 20 years ago.
having studied much in my youth, and being the submarine witness that i was, i married at 19 and began my "worldly coarse".
i just knew it was the "truth".

I prayed for 15 years(not continually you understand, but lots of seperate prayers) for a sign or some help or direction, I was extremely soncere and almost desperate at times. I never got any help at all.
If a God does answer prayers then he is very selective. He clearly did not like me.

Mis-quotes
by barbar inthe other day i read about a bible commentator who was upset that the wtbts has mis-quoted him.
they had said he felt the nwt was a good translation and he had not.
can't remember where i read it or who he was.. do you have any recollections of times that they had quoted experts in their field and misled the wt readers by implying that the expert supported the wtbts when in fact they had not.
