If they can reprove or disfellowship you for just showing someone the UN website, what do you think they should do for someone who joins it as a NGO and prints supportive information about the UN in their magazines?

If I had the time and resources to take legal action I might think about it. Right now, I'm just relieved that they didn't disfellowship us, because I still have some family on the inside.
I'm trying not to get worked up about it because I plan on just slipping out now anyway.
Hey Badwillie just wanted to say I found your attitude extremely commendable! Like you said, it is a shame that you are having to go through this but great in that maybe it is what your wife need to open her eyes a little to what the JW org. is really all about.
Seems to me that the attitude of these "brothers" is in line with the August Watchtower where ones are admonished not to even question the org. in their private and innermost thoughts...scary isn't it?

When I read your post, my first thought was "Why not tell the SOBs off, let them DF you and be done with it", however, for the sake of the family you have left, you've probably done the right thing.
I wish you the best. I sincerely hope your wife will continue to see the foolishness of this decision and join you as you 'slip out'.
I'm sure you'll have plenty of opportunities to talk to others as they stick their noses in to try and get the 'dirt' on what happened to you. With carefully selected words and a factual accounting of exactly what transpired, who knows how many you might be able to help.

Just curious, what was the Elders reaction to Society being on the UN list? Did they have any reasoning on that? Sorry to hear of your reproving, seems really unfair just for wondering about it. Let us know. Thanks!

During the hearing one of the elders said something to the effect that "if this is true then the organization is dead". That same Elder in the next sentence then reversed himself and said "that even if it is true it doesn't change anything for me". He reasoned that if it is so, there must be a legitimate reason for it "and besides", he said, "where else is there to go, what other religion has so much truth, and bears Jehovah's name, and preach worlwide". That's when another elder chastised me for even browsing around the UN's website, he said we can trust information that originates with the "Beast" organization. We were then bombarded with scriptures taken out of context that really had no relevance to our situation. It was truly an amazing thing to behold! It's the Inquisition, in 2001.
