Regarding the speculating on the part of the congregation, please make sure EVERYONE knows exactly why you were reproved. Some good can come from this.

Bad Willie,
Writing the society was a wise move. They won't deny their former status and this is likely to shock the elders. They will however, spin their involvement so that it appeared to be irrelavent.
When the letter is sent to your elders, likely to be discussed with you, thank them for the 'clarification' of your concerns and leave it at that.
Perhaps remind the elders that 'well meaning questions are not discouraged' because after all, we are not a cult, are we?

It's SO hard to realize that the ways and doctrines your entire life revolved around are a web of some truths, half truths, and lies. Somehow it seems that your "sinful behavior" has frightened the Three Wise Men!
" Her 16 years of faithful "service" are about to be null and void for merely having a private conversation with a friend about some FACTUAL and PUBLIC information. We were told that it was wrong to be looking at the UN's website, and we had the scripture applied to us about "those that arise and speak twisted things".
It hardly seems fair! Facts AND Public information? Looking at the UN's website is WRONG? How presumptuous!! The ones "arising and speaking twisted things" are NOT the UN in this case! (BTW, don't look at the Weather Channel....they "make predictions" that often don't come true too)The Society says that Jehovah sets "limitations and boundaries" for our protection....but these endless "rules and suggestions" become more like a cage where someone keeps squeezing the sides in so you can't even breathe. Loving provision?Hardly.Control? Absolutely.

I think this says it all..."cold machinery"...far from the "loving reproof" to keep the sheep from leaving the fold, huh? I really hurt for you both, I know ALL the feelings that are warring inside of you right now and it's a horrible place to be. Even as I read your post, the anger and the tears welled up inside of me for us ALL who have been put through this agony.
Keep reminding yourselves that they are just MEN, and not "the ELDERS" to you any longer. They are NOT keeping an account of your "souls", either, despite what they'll tell you.

I am sorry for what you are going through. Please, please, please take this further and contact those people who have offered to help. By all means appeal, get the announcement stopped, write to the society and copy the elders on the letter.

If the reporter from the Gaurdian is reading these pages this is another story. The WTS claimed its association with the UN was for human rights reasons yet when its own membership discuss their involvement they seek to discipline the member. If Bad Willie is disfellowshipped (the next stage if he continues with this) the WTS and the JWs will be violating his human rights, his right to dignity...and for what? Telling the truth.

I am in 2 minds over this. First of all I do sort of want to get on with my life now that I have come to terms with all that has happened.
I was indoctrinated starting at the age of 10, baptized at 17 (1984), and I am now 34 years old. I have a lot of living to do now that I am free. I also have a beautiful 1 year old boy now too.
But also, the "BadWillie" side of me really does want to SCREAM OUT my side of the story for the whole world to hear. In the last month, since I started discovering the real "truth" about the WTS, I have had to internalize so much anger. I have driven home from work many nights shouting curse words at the GB! But, I still am not sure how many people at the even the top level are acting in a devious manner. In fact, Ray Franz even says this in both his books. So, aren't most of the members of the WTS victims themselves? How bad is the corruption at the top? As I said, I really would like to expose this if I thought I could do it without bringing too much harn to my family.
