While people have different ideas on what love actually is, to me it's caring for someone deeply. We can tell it exists, because we have evidence all around us of people treating others with care, even giving their own lives to save others in some cases. Love is a universal concept- we don't have people in America thinking love means one thing, and people in Iran thinking it means something else (like, you know, gods!).

If someone said they loved you, then punched you in the face, would you still believe they loved you? Or would the evidence speak against that?

Did God punch you in the face? What did you do?

Perhaps the phrase God is Love has some merit yes? Who can deny that being in love or loving someone isn't a feeling or connection to something more than just our physical being. I don't believe in God as an entity per se but I don't rule out the possiblity. People knew without a doubt the earth was flat at one point as there was no evidence to the contrary.

    Your mileage may differ

I don't say there isn't a god either. There's just no reason to believe in one.

There may be faries, dragons and goblins- who knows? There's just no reason to believe in them, so we tend not to.

I always enjoy your posts. I get the feeling all you want is a personal experience that will give you the same

reason to believe in a supernatural realm of existence as you hear others have had.

I believe because I have such a reason.

However, the god you read about in the Bible may not be the god I'm talking about. I'm still exploring that, and

more and more, I'm beginning to feel that this "Jehovah" is not one and the same god as the Divine Presence that

moves through all and in all.

Does this thread make you feel better?

A piece of advice I was given while in therapy: as long as you're making up stories about people you don't know, make up ones that make you feel better. If thinking I'm a deluded fool does something for you, that's fine with me. Your opinion has no more meaning to me than the static on a radio.

If you don't feel better have posting that, I suggest reexaming your view of people and the world.

    Thanks J-O,

I should clarify my position. Let's say most of the world believed in faries. Would my conversation with these people mean I hoped to see faries too, or would it mean I was concerned that so many people were completely deluded, and I wanted to help them see reality? It would be the latter. There's no more reason to believe in a god over faries.

I know you're not deliberately lying when you say you have a reason, you do think you have a reason to believe. Unfortunately, you are unwilling or unable to share your reason, so it remains personal to you. If the only person you can convince is yourself, most of the time this means it's a delusion at work.

Mouthy thought I may have had a bad life, so that's why I make a fuss. It's just not like that at all. If I wanted people to stop believing in faries, it would mean I just wanted people to stop believing in faries- nothing more, nothing less.

I would probably be offended if there was a god, because he/she/it may aswell not exist for all the influence it has in our universe and lives. If there is a god, it takes no interest in us.

I am not disputing that you heard a voice in a time of dire need, or that the christian abuse hotline existed, or that they helped you. I imagine that it was exactly what you needed at the time. Many people need an institutional belief system for the whole duration of their lives. That's ok.

there are some pretty ugly things in this world too. It's a mixture.

Yes there is darling!!! Mostly humans doing....Although you may be right about one thing. You are free to think as you like & if you want to think I should NOT believe in my GOD you can.... True you cant look at the sun....Neither can you look at God.... Not ALL of GOD.... folks saw part of God >Jesus ,when he came to die for us, Just as you can feel part of me >my spirit ( its ticked) But as Annie said I can see your age & boy I would hate to tell you what I believed at that age
So go on with your life. Remember the famous old words" KNOWLEDGE PUFFS UP BUT LOVE BUILDS UP"
Dont stop posting we love newcomers on here. I Believe a creator made all things. You dont! thats what I call agreeing to disagree..It is good to exchange ideas I think --- I didnt think you had a bad life I thought I said a HURT life .but at my age I cant always remember

probably would be, had you bHave you ever considered that had you been born to a Hindu family, you would now be telling me you're going to pray to Krishna for me? Youeen raised Hindu.

Yes your right there love .If I was born a Hindu I would be asking that god for help for you. But I was born not believing in anything, had a parent that was a baptist- never listened to what she said Had one that was atheist didnt listen to him either .I was having to much fun doing my own thing & NO god was in it....But by doing my own thing I ended up pregnant -by 21 I had 4 kids. (one died in the bombing in England. ) I learned after all these kids that I found life difficult. Then a JW knocked on my door & told me I was lost. & THAT I KNEW!!!! so I allowed them to lead me up the garden path ----filled with beautiful promises. Took me two years to swallow it all. Got baptised thinking I was RIGHT!!!!
Got kicked out cos I didnt see Jesus come invisably in 1914....Wanted to die.
Then real LOVING folks came along didnt care what I believed ,what I had done in my life< just wanted to help.... I started to do something I had NEVER done. Prayed to the CREATOR .
No I cant prove to you that GOD exists >for you< but I KNOW he has been there for me, Ive lost most of my closest family in death. & he was there with me to help me look after them, No GOD didnt kill them Sickness did!!!!! & we live in a very sick world. Whom do I believe is responsible for all the suffering???
your going to say "OH NO" but I believe it is Satan.
