And I tell you that I want them to use whatever means available to get information out of those terrorists bastards.

It's been proved as an unreliable form of information-extraction, as often false confessions are made just to get out of being tortured.

I bet, if you were to undergo any form of torture yourself, and you were accused of something you were innocent of, you would also ''confess'' just to stop the torture.

Especially if your torturer's did not believe you when you claimed to be innocent.

Is any kind of torture allowable? Suppose a captive has information that a nuclear weapon was going to be detonated where you live and all your loved ones including yourself and millions more would be killed, what would you do, how far would you be willing to go, to get that information.

This question has been played out and according to how you are personally affected different answers have been given. What would your answer be?

How do you know you could trust the information extracted from a criminal under torture? They might say anything to stop the torture. Even the scenario above doesn't change that generally, torture has proven an unreliable means to get accurate information.

Blueblades asks "is any kind of torture allowable?" Good question.

If a person could destroy a country because of the knowledge that he refuses to divulge, isn't it justifiable to torture the truth out of that person?

Gopher, I just saw your response. Don't you think that we have been getting info for decades illegally (for the good of the country)?

Why would you believe that you can "torture the truth out" of a person?

Do you believe that the women burned at the stake in Salem were really witches, Minimus?

No I don't think they were witches. But I do think that the other guys are terrorists.

If we didn't use torture we'd still be swimming in witches! I for one am glad that I do not have to suffer a witch to live.

It would be naive to say this approach hasn't been tried. I doubt its efficacy, and I don't think it's for the "good of the country". I've heard the arguments that say it is necessary. However, I'm with Senator McCain on this one and say we're America and we shouldn't do this.

I'm with shawn... what is 'watherboarding" that is being talked of here? I surf (or used to lol), skin board (until my board went one way and I just went the other way, straight down on my butt), Body(Boogie) board).. so from reading the posts so far I can obviously see it has nothing to do with the beach. ? does someone have a light explaination of what it is?
