WHY don't Americans realize GUNS are destroying their country?

  Not true. Many are used in shooting sports that are non-lethal and harm no living thing. A gun is a tool. Guns are used in the US in a non-lethal way far more often than in a lethal way. As a previous poster said, there are millions of spent rounds at the local range for every round that is used against a human being. Also, for every occasion that a gun is used in self defense, there are likely 100 that merely producing the weapon heads off an altercation.

  In that sense you are declaring that your right to owning and using a weapon produced to kill - is a human right.

  The right to self defense is a basic right, and a weapon--whether it be a ready-made one like a firearm, or an improvised one like a kitchen knife--is merely a tool that is used to secure it. Self defense means the right to engage in violence for the sake of your own life or that of another, up to and including deadly force. The firearm is just a more efficient and well designed means of doing it.

  I don't own any guns myself, nor do I have any desire to. Having said that, the problem isn't the gun legislation, or lack thereof, we have in this country. The problem is the existence of guns.

  The fundamental flaw in your reasoning, and the reasoning of most anti-gun advocates, is the belief that tougher gun laws, or outlawing guns altogether, will somehow make them inaccessible to people. Wrong. You are in essence saying that such laws will give those with no respect for law to begin with, pause before acquiring them. As with drugs, and with prohibition in the 30's, making such things illegal won't prevent their use and distribution. In fact, you'll only be unleashing more criminals on society.

  As for me, I'm prepared to defend my home and life by whatever means necessary. I don't care who has issues with it. I'm not prepared to give up my life in an effort to avoid offending someone else's sensibilities.

  The carrying of a hand gun in this country is a crime in itself, therefore you have already committed the crime by carrying the gun.

  Thank you for helping make my point. Thus the police state. It is a crime to carry a piece of steel. It is a 5 year sentece to walk around with a device that could save your life. That is a police state. No longer does it suffice to hurt someone before a crime can be realized. The potential to harm someone is a crime.

  We should get rid of our guns. Our guns are mean. The guns in Switzerland, although much more prevalent on a per capita basis, are much less likely to be used in a crime. This is because Switzerland has nicer guns than the ones in the United States. Replacing our guns with the nice guns they use will solve our crime problem.

  Guns are the only thing allowing the American people to keep some control over their government. If the UK government decides to go fascist, there isnt one thing their citizenry could do about it, as the law enforcement have all the guns, and could break off from the government and do as they wish.
