Back in the early 60's some zealous (if slightly crazy), end time Witness "brothers" in the Minneapolis Minnesota area, bought a huge military surplus trailered electric generator to use to power the Southdale shopping mall so the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation volunteers had a place to go that had electric service after Armageddon. These guys were as serious as a mosquito in a nudist camp.
I'm still having giggle spells when I think about them.

Mormons are prepared (the original boy scouts!) but they are into being self sufficient. I don't remember it being touted as good for the end of the world(although it may well have been some aspect of it that I wasn't paying attention to!). They are very into having a years supply in case the economy(national or personal) tanks, and so that they have the means to help others if necessary. They are all about having a years supply of money if at all possible, too. Not being dependent on govt. is (an alleged) goal of the LDS church, but they have a hugely high percentage of people getting welfare in Utah, so I can't speak to how faithfully it is done, or how well.

Oh good grief! They have no clue.
Maybe they should start walking in field service with a fully loaded LBE vest, combat load of magazines, rifle, sidearm, and a full camelback hydration pack. Then again, the ACU and boots are much more comfortable than the FSU (Field Service Uniform).

back in pre-1975 we had some JWs in our cong that were stocking up. One person admitting to having a cottage filled with what he would need to get by for a couple of months along with a rifle so no one would rob him
The rest od us just thought he was weird because we were going to rely on Jehovah
Yup this is what I believed - um some 30+ years ago
