Why did you pick two diseases so closely linked to lifestyle choice?

Great Idea! pick 4 or five teeth you like and just focus on brushing those!

All the angst about this is really nothing more then people who don't want to be taxed, and have a hypersensitive reaction to poor people getting basic health care.

Children? We already pay for their education. Can we expose them to some doctors at least?

Lets see, we as an evolved and enlightened society will just let people get sick and die if they can't afford the rip off insurance currently out there.

Or, they should lift themselves up by their bootstraps and work their way up the captialistic foodchain.

Oops, you have undiagnosed cancer. You're dead. Bye!

Sorry, this will be my only post on this, but the right is wrong on this one... (and I enjoyed watching Barney Frank hand a couple of hysterical rightis their @$$ on this subject) I agree that there should be some strings attached, but denying people basic checkups and healthcare when we have the means to do it is wrong. Morally.

Does this make me a bleeding heart liberal? Labels don't matter where people's welfare is at stake.

Why did you pick two diseases so closely linked to lifestyle choice? Seems you are arguing that America has perfected the art of curing diseases caused by the American lifestyle. Congrats on that.

You are so good at changing the subject. Well not really, because your dodging is easy to see. You are worse than a dub playing bible hopscotch at a householder's door. You recieved evidence that you have not been able to refute on this thread that our system delivers superior technology and better delivery and outcomes in key areas. This becomes a launchpad for a fresh accusation on youyr part regarding lifestyle choices, a diversion from the subject at hand, rather than evidence your views are incorrect.

Incidentally, these are not diseases caused by the American lifestyle. These are diseases that are universal, including Europe and Canada. Good habits help, but even athletes like Lance Armstrong get it. So you see, cures are extremely important. You deprecate them because you are acting a fool. By the way, more patients die from these things as a percentage of those treated in Europe and Canada than in America.

I dont think that some kind of "payment" be given is wrong, even if its some kind of community service according to the physical abilities of a person.

I am upset by the tone of this discussion, and others in these town hall meetings. The right is just totally mudballing this.

Ok, I posted when I said I wouldn't, but BTS came back, so I can post again.

Guys, universal health care is coming to an America near you! Get used to it. It might be populist, but thats what happens when you ignore too large a segment of the population for too long, they get kinda bitchy..... And then they vote.

NONE of us can afford the healthcare we get!!!!!

That's why we have insurance and that is why we are trying to get affordable insurance for everyone!

What if all the insurance companies said, Screw everybody, we are going to invest our money somewhere else, then what would we do?

How many procedures and sicknesses could we actually pay for, in full, with what we make?

Good bad or ugly, I think you're wrong. I think the current house/congress is to scared to pass anything. Don't get me started on the administration.

I think something will pass. It won't be called "Universal". It will be "public option".

You don't seem to "get" that you are paying for it in full, as a fractional portion of the overall risk in the insurance risk pool you are part of. You aren't getting a free lunch with insurance. No one is paying for you, every individual is spreading it all over a larger group, and paying their portion, which reduces your personal financial exposure to catastrophic risk. Incidentally, this is all insurance should be used for. If consumers were exposed to the direct costs of routine care, and only insured against large events, prices would fall in an incredible hurry. It would happen so fast it would make your head spin. Economic common sense has been hampered because the average consumer is insulated from the direct impact of his healthcare decisions. I remember getting house calls from the family doctor as a kid.

    No insurance.
