    Universal means Freedom.

Freedom to move from one job to another; freedom to open a small business; freedom to quit a job and go back to school; freedom to see a doctor or use any hospital without penalty from an insurance company; freedom to move from one place to another to look for a job; freedom from worry and constant stress that underscores quality of life for millions of people who live in constant fear of losing their healthcare insurance and become sick and/or bankrupt, homeless, destitute.

Freedom from the constant burden of working just to survive by paying healthcare insurance costs, is real freedom - the rest is simply survival.

You know what my ass did today? I donated $6800 in refurbished computers to the Boys and girls club. They'll get them next week.

    Marry me?

How is your vested interest helped in any way by the insurance companies skimming billions off the top?
They are not skimming billions. They are earning profits for providing services.

Priest, you mean your company donated those computers? No way in hell do I believe you personally did. Nor do I believe for one instant that you are in the top tax bracket. Really? You make more than 99.9% of Americans???

Economic common sense has been hampered because the average consumer is insulated from the direct impact of his healthcare decisions.

    or

(Basic morality) has been hampered because the average (Republican) is insualted from the direct impact of (their exclusionary policies on the working poor.)

Republicans continue to make the same mistake that capitalism somehow became the 5th gospel, and that they must protect their (current) idea of capitalism at the expense of the people. Capitalism has evolved from the times of the Constitution (another argument for another time) and all that Republicans are doing is shilling for insurance corporations. Don't bullshit me and tell me this is on principle. As if it is somehow bad business and bad policy to make sure the citizens are healthy and have access to affordable healthcare.

I know, an argument that is pretty old, but that is why I am not voting Republican until they figure out what "Compassionate Conservative" means.

I got house calls from the family doctor - so did my mother during the last 3 years of her life. She had insurance - a single payer insurance system used in Canada. It was fantastic care from the doctor she had for 30 years....those doctors and their ilk, like RAM, are the true heroes in healthcare...dedication and committment for service to the people they swear to serve. No private insurance companies needed. sammieswife.

The current employer centric model is a big part of the problem. Coverage needs to be individual, and not tied to employer. What you are describing is not Universal, but Portable. Coverage is already Universal. Anyone that wants coverage can simply purchase it.

Hear hear. We need someone wealthy to pay so we are free from paying for our food, our shelter, our clothing and our water. Hell, throw in free cable while your at it. Up until now, air has been free, but the current party in power wants to change that into a taxable commodity. Yes. They have figured out how to tax the air we breathe.

While you couch your conversation in party politics. It goes far beyond this. Free market capitalism is the only moral economic system. Period.

All other systems rely on the use of force. Coercion, if not initiated to prevent coercion or fraud, is always immoral. Free capitalism is the only purely voluntary economic system. It is also the only organic one.

Free market capitalism is also the only one that is capable of raising billions out of poverty. All other ones are an outright failure in this regard. They have all failed.

Burns you are like a two year old throwing a temper tantrum, you will not quit until you get your way.

You are wrong, greedy and lack empathy for anyone. You regurgitate one lie after another trying to block any progress or real discussion.

If you get your way there will be many more than the 47 million without health care. And one day you will be the one without health care and you will lose your rental properties, your home, your retirement and everything else. You will have to pay capital gains tax on all the depreciation, you claimed on those rental properties. And then when you have nothing left, you can get medicaid and be one of those low life bums that you hate so much.
