Does anyone else see the irony?

    Yes, and it's delicious.

    Selected Diabetes Highlights
1889: In Germany, Joseph von Mehring and Oscar Minkowski produce diabetes in dogs by removing the pancreas.

1921:Frederick Banting and Charles Best discover insulin at the University of Toronto, with the collaboration of J.J.R. Macleod and J.B. Collip.

Nine, I was aware that it was at the University of Toronto. I'm unaware of what their health care structure was in 1921. However, I am aware of where the majority of health care advancement is currently coming from and the patent system that fuels both this development and profits.

You see, I'm personally invested in this debate. This isn't theoretical for me.

Well being a retired person.....I just received a link from A.A.R.P.(Association for retired persons) about the Healthcare reform. The facts and myths.

This is the link...when the sliding questions come up there are three links shown towards the bottom. The middle one is "Get the facts". Don't know what to believe now. A.A.R.P. usually knows what they are talking about. Especially for the seniors..

Don't forget the cost of doing nothing on the "con" side.

One thing all parties (except the insurance monoliths) can agree on: America's health care system desperately needs reform!

P.S. to Burn: How can we miss you if you won't go away? Welcome back! Play nice now.

    Yes, and it's delicious.

Please explain how two discoveries from nearly a century ago make this irony delicious especially since the Canadian system did not attain it's current socialized form until after the post-war era.

Ok Doe, here's a question for you. How is your vested interest helped in any way by the insurance companies skimming billions off the top? What do they add to our health care, or your need for R & D??

Maybe I should have phrased that better on "goalposts being moved on every play"...I am not so sure that the goalposts are being moved; maybe just the referees are changing the rules and terminology on every play.

What was being presented as a compassionate bill for the 47m who do not have "good insurance of their own" is now looking a lot like a government takeover/dissassembly of the Health Insurance industry. Look to the Auto Industry for a good prototype - and the irony is that the Health Insurance industry is about the only thing left in the U.S. other than dope peddling or fast food that is still making money. Big Health Insurance is now the enemy-mantra of the proponents of Big Government Everything.

Wonder what the loss of these workers will do to the already sick economy and unemployment figures?

Here's another question Doe (and welcome back Burn, you owe us some fish). You are planning on being a Lawyer. If you found out that instead of making 110.00 bucks an hour you were actually only going to make 95.00, are you seriously telling me you are going to scrap the whole thing??

My god Woods, it's like all you guys are afflicted with Stockholm Syndrome. Who gives a damn about greedy corporations? Those corporations were born, and plenty of business thrived in this country while the top tax rates were over 70%. And those poor CEO's only made 26% more than the average worker, not the almost 500% more they do now.

They are not skimming billions. They are earning profits for providing services.
