Is there anyone on the GB who has more than a high school certificate?

I remember seeing a video of a GB member talking about higher education and comparing it to "shooting oneself in the head." Perhaps his name was Loesch? It is a real gem.

    Yes, that was Loesch.

He also explained that all the continents were torn apart at the time of the flood--yes, not continental drift over millions of years, but in one year--continents moved thousands of miles. He also went on to say that in the new system they would all come back together so that we would have one landmass. He further claimed that snakes would get "pretty mouth parts."

Maybe the people doing the research could be shown this enlightening video if you can find it. I think the flood and snake info was in another talk.

It was another talk, "You Will Be With Me in Paradise." by Ciro Aulicino.

It is a must listen for anyone studying to be a JW.

I don't mean to be diverting the core topic of this thread, but I just need to vent this.

As a JW, I seem to recall the push to get young folks to apply to Bethel.

I also seem to remember them discouraging 'higher education'.

I also... seem to remember the announcements from the stage that they were ONLY looking for those who had certain degrees - to apply to Bethel.

It was confusing - and discouraging - as personally - I felt that I had not really tried to go the college route - and now they were looking for 'professionals' to fill the ranks at Bethel.

If anyone analyzed it - it meant that they were only looking for those who had first gotten a college education - then converted to JW-ism.

As for the ol' fogeys that lead Bethel, perhaps they have 'college envy' (similar to pe***s envy), when they discourage other young folk from getting a college education.

    Regards,

    Jim TX

I don't know about today. Remember that the wisdom of the world is foolishness with God, unless it is wisdom about how to manipulate the legal system. Otherwise, ignorance is smartness to God. Also, ignorant illiterates make very good followers, jail-fodder and kool-aid drinkers.

I agree with what Blondie said about old-timers.

There were, of course, lawyers - Rutherford, Moyle, Covington and their spawn continues to thrive today.

There were doctors, if by "doctors," you include fringe medicine of the Walter Bishop variety. Mae Work and her husband Linus C. Work, were osteopaths, as was Almeta Nation, who married Robison. Rutherford's girlfriends had fringe medical training too, or so they claimed.

Robison was called "professor" by his contemporaries and was said to be a linguist, although you'd be hard-pressed to prove that he even finished his second year in college.

VanAmburgh had been a college man, I can't recall what he majored in.

Which just goes to show that even people with an "education" can be idiots.

Having been brought up in the cult. I left school with virtually no qualifications . I still managed to become a company director in the city though. I write and I am surrounded by people within my profession who all have degrees and even MBA's so I am not a complete idiot!
