Some folks prefer the comfort of a lie, rather than the truth.
What hope is there then?

Snowbird, Wobble you both epitomize my original "issue"
A) There is a God (thus hope) B) There is no God (and no hope)
We've already discussed option B, so looking at option A, if there is a God then there is some interesting logic to consider:
There are a ton of religions, many believing some polar-opposite things.
For the "polar-opposite" beliefs, only one can be true.
- Therefore, wouldn't it make sense that there would be at least one religion that would have most of it's biggest beliefs be the valid version? Don't make this about why JWs would or wouldn't fit this category. I'm looking at this at a higher religion-agnostic level.

I struggled with this at first when I realised that the WBTS were making it up as they went along.
The wonderful thing I have discovered is that there is real joy to be had in life from the simple things: planting my own vegetables, spending quality time with my children at the weekend and reading thngs that expand my horizons. The best thing by far is that I have discovered there are some fantastic people out there in the "world" and it isn't the wicked evil place I had been led to believe.
I have no need for paradise.

Imo, there is no true or right religion.
This is the One on whom we, individually, should be focused.
John 14:6 Jesus said, "I am the Road, also the Truth, also the Life. No one gets to the Father apart from me. MSG
We all have a desire and need to know our fathers - mothers are the easy part.

A) There is a God (thus hope) B) There is no God (and no hope)
I don't see how the idea that there is no God equates to the idea that there is no hope. Ancient man demonstrably did not believe in the current forms of God - but did dream of the ability to fly. After many generations, the hope of flight was realized, and without divine interference. It even went so far as to land humans on the moon.
Thus, there is always the human hope that future generations will accomplish far more than we have. This is in many ways much more satisfying (and demonstrably much less selfish) than holding only the purely personal hope that we will individually fly around in heaven.
It might also be pointed out that in almost all religions, there is a carrot and stick belief system. For every hope, there is also an almighty fear...hellfire, armageddon, being reincarnated as a grasshopper, and so on. If the hope were big enough on its own, why scare people into holding onto it?

What do we have to look forward to if there is no paradise on earth?
Love, right here, right now.
As Paul said ( The apostle, not the beatle, but he was right too), the greatest of all things is Love.

Yes, IF God plays favorites and he wants the least number of people possible to gain this reward.
