Lord of the Flies?
Excellent book and fascinating movie, dear one jamesmahon (peace to you!). Did you know that the phrase is an inaccurate transliteration of the name "Beelzebub"? And that the name "Beelzebub" doesn't mean "Lord of the Flies," but "false god (baal, ba'el)... [of the] flying things (ze'bub)"... and refers to BeliJahEl ("without Jah as his God")... whom you may know as Satan, the Devil? It is true.
Why did god create someone who had no hope of seeing anything in the bible but a collection of daft stories?

He did. Man, how didn't understand that "style"... altered to reflect what HE understood... or THOUGHT he understood... when he copied, translated, printed, and otherwise reissued it. The error is not with God... but with man who purpoted to interpret God... without being led by/going through His Son, Christ, the Holy Spirit. I SO don't get why folks don't GET that... particularly in light of the statements IN the Bible that SAYS: "Do NOT put your trust in earthling MAN." And, "The stylus of the secretaries has worked in sheer falsehood." And, "WOE, to you... scribes!" What is so HARD to understand about that?
If the serpent was really a terrapin why did he not just say so?
Two reasons: one, it wasn't a terrapin, and two, because a "saraph/seraph" is a flying, fiery SERPENT. So, "serpent" was/is accurate. That "certain" men didn't know what a seraph was... and so assumed it was a snake... isn't God's fault. All they needed to do... was ask.
Everyone knows those little bleeders can bite your finger off given half a chance so I would have fully understood then.
Ah, yes, I see what you mean. But I think the copyists were able to relate "serpent" to snake more easily than they were to "turtle."
Having read AGuests (why 'shelby' btw?) posts I think I get the israelite snake biting story now.
Shelby, because that is my name. I have nothing to hide, so I don't hide behind my avatar. Even so, I don't think you DO get it.
The snakes biting the people were really the men impregnating the women. The copper snake was really a symbol for a copper coil. God was trying to tell the israelites to stop procreating in the hope that their barmy beliefs could be stopped before infecting the rest of the world. Bugger, he failed again.

Come on God - make those symbols clearer or just bring the bible up to date.
OR... you could just go to, ask, and listen to Christ... which is quite easy, really...
