Yes, I would want the WORLD to know about the child molester. SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOF TOPS. Protect all kids so that this creep can't do it again. How dare you! You would have it covered up so that there is no shame? The moment I found out that my child was molested, I go to the police, then take my child to therapy to start dealing with the issues that will arise in the future.

When I was in Winnipeg a "brother" was arrested for sexually abusing a child in the cong. It was in the papers.

The elders response?

They moved him to another congregation

Big deal. Now he had a whole new crop of kids to go after.

I'd rather let people know that they need to protect their children from a perp in the cong than know I shut my mouth and other kids were abused.

There is no shame in being a victim. That shame belongs to the abuser. But we shift it on to the victim so we don't have to do anything. I felt far more shamed by the silence than I did by the police coming to my home. I sat in a police cruiser and watched while the police came with my father to remove his things and get out. I felt better knowing I was safe from him

It's actually a JW/Catholic/Baptist/*insert any other religious org here* thing, the craptower is no different from any other org, but at least the Catholic church is trying to make amends. DB- If the policy is 2 or more witnesses- YES, I agree. If its small kids, I'd let the police know.

Older kids, or adults- I'd have them stay at my house until THEY could make arrangements to leave, call the police, whatever......MadJW

Mad: The elders should do what professionals do - Sex crimes against minors are a matter for the police. Police detectives have years of training, experience, and are required to study these sort of cases. Elders should immediately urge the parents to call the police, or do it themselves. You know - the responsible thing to do.

The 'good name' of potential molesters or WT corporate trademarks should be the LAST concern. To think you hold these things above protecting vulnerable children is disgusting. If the claim is false - THAT can be determined by professionals. It can NOT be determined by a bunch of local window-washers, who's instruction comes from a single chapter in a single book - written by uneducated 80 year-old men (who are senile enough to believe god hand-picked them to rule with him in heaven).

My child was molested after this policy change...

We were still made to feel as we did something wrong by calling the autorities before the elders. Not verbally, but how we were treated.

We heard the phrase "reproach on Jehovah's name" over and over agian along with "this is bad". We really felt almost guilty after the elders left our home.. well, really confused.. My child was questioned horriably for almost 2 hours and not one of those elders told us we could have just given them the story Dont they relize the damage they can do?? Do they care?

It was a night I will never forget. They actually told us the molester had the just as much right as his victim to me in the KH?? How was that protecting the victim from further abuse as the NEW policy states? Of course we didn't allow her in the same room with the creep ever again until she had to face him in court.

No Love..

No support..

No compassion..

So unlike Christ Jesus.

I pray for those going through it right now, because I know they're out there.
