It may not be illegal but very unethical. He is serving as an MS and that is not setting an example.

There is a brother who used to be in my KH. He would always brag how he works around 20 hrs a week. His wife is a regular pioneer and they are always complaining about their money problems and "woe is me". They ended up getting food stamps and ate better than most in our KH. People would tell him to have his wife find a PT job, but he says "she works for Jehovah." I say Jehovah does not give her a paycheck. He is an MS she is a pioneer they both should be disqualified since they are not working (hard enough) to pay their bills and have to live off the government.

Isn't it ironic how the JWs preach that Jehovah's Kingdom is the only hope for mankind, and yet they suck up Caesar's free food stamps, free medical care-medicaid, low income housing allowances, earned income tax credit (free money from the rest of the taxpayers), Govt Pell grants for education/training, etc, etc.- and finally when they go into a nursing home they will have Caesar pay for that, too.- don't forget Social Security/Medicare- just in case the Kingdom is delayed and the JW really does have to face old age and a bleak retirement.

Moshe, I completely agree. If there are some who TRULY need the assistance, that is what it is there for. Not working 20 hrs/week and the wife is a pioneer with no job.

If they are doing something that may be illegal that you also consider to be morally wrong and can turn them in anonymously then do so.

The authorities make the decision, and if the JW's in question are doing no wrong then they will still be entitled to their benefits.

sw, your examples are totally disproportionate. That's being polite. As one of our posters would say - think about it

The wife had a steady, full time position at a bank. When their baby was born, it broke the wife's heart to be away from the baby. She gave up money and health insurance to be a stay-at-home mom and auxillary pioneer.

Translation: She's a lazy bitch who's milking the System. I knew a sister in a neighbouring congregation who was a Bookkeeper. She applied for a permanent disability because she had arthritis in her knees and it made working just sooooo difficult. They denied it to her at first but she appealed and appealed it till she finally got approved. The day she was approved she quit working, went on a trip with her equally useless husband and put her application in for Regular Pioneering. I was disgusted as she probably gets at least $1,000/month for doing squat. Medical benefits is not an issue up here as everyone's covered whether you work or not, but the fact that she's soaking the system for a grand a month because her poor knees can't handle uh, sitting at a desk, but they can somehow handle walking door to door several times a week. I guess the Holy Spirit must be at work.

I'm with Moshe on this: it's pathetic how JW's are taught that the entire world is under the control of Satan and how we should be no part of it, yet they have absolutely no problem in sucking every dime they can out of government programs while 'pioneering'. Years ago (at least in our area), they generally would not let you pioneer if you were on welfare or disability as they thought it set an incredibly bad example. Times changed though and if they want better stats, then you better lighten up on how a person supports themselves. I know of at least 3 people around here who 'pioneer' while collecting a Disability cheque. Hmmmm......maybe I should make a couple of calls...........

It's not that I care if someone genuinely needs welfare, foodstamps etc. due to the economic crisis. That's what it's there for. But I do find it disgusting when I see people milking the system as it costs the taxpayers billions of dollars each year.

you know Mary, I agree with you/you hit it right on!.

I have not stated much on other threads (including the CVS one) but you reason pretty well, and kudos.

Studies have shown JWs are ~15x more likely to have mental illness than the general population. Also, studies have shown that fundamentalist religions (like the JWs) attract people of low intelligence. In my experience, most JWs are crazy and/or retarded and either of these conditions could qualify someone for SSI and all the other benefits that come with it. There is a finite number of Wal-Mart greeter positions to go around, so they may have a legally-legitimate claim for government assistance.

Don't become a judgmental gossip for revenge. That would violate several Scriptural ideals. Maybe you should go to them and talk to them about it, like we all wish they would do. Never get in the mud and wrestle with a pig; you'll just get dirty and the pig likes it.
