Whether you are atheist or not or Christian or not, you just can't say that the Bible teaches that NO ONE goes to heaven. It's just a little ridiculous.

    Agreed.

    Notverylikely,

You said to Dan's claim that Jesus is God, "it's also easy to cherry pick scripture and ignore those where Jesus clearly says he is NOT the father."

You don't have to accept the Trinity doctrine, but just to be clear, trinitarians don't claim that Jesus is the father.

I won't go into it further here since the thread is about heaven, not the trinity, but just wanted to clear up possible misunderstanding.

Welcome Sobrino1! I don't know if we go to heaven or stay on earth or go anywhere after we are gone from here. I just know I'm here right now - I think . . .

Hi sobrino, I like your reasoning. However I have to disagree with you on the phrase "Kingdom of the heavens" and what it means. Stricktly speaking it means Heaven's kingdom.

I agree with Leo that the new testament was written during a time of flux and may different ideas were in currency at the time. To me Heaven's kingdom signifies a different place to look forward to (different to the chaotic frightening situation ensuing at the time). I agree that this heavenly place could be on earth or in heaven though.

    Welcome dysfunction!

Frankly I do not want to go to heaven because there is no food, sex, or sleep.

Who said there is no food or sleep?

9 Then the angel said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!' " And he added, "These are the true words of God."

15 When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, "Blessed is the man who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God."

    Hebrews 4:10 (New International Version)

10 for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his.

Jesus has the physical resurrection body already (being the firstborn of many brothers) and He clearly eats.

For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have." 40 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. 41 And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them, "Have you anything here to eat?" 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, [ a ]

Of course its all Literal I'd like my house to be solid emerald, kind of like in the Wizard of OZ, or maybe the 7th chamber described in the Jewish Midrashim........then we can have a little tea and smoke some herb with my personally assigned sixty angels and Mosheh Rabbenu (Moses) and discuss why there are 8 myrtle boughs in the Eternal Hall. "Drink your wine (I'll be able to drink booze again) which has been preserved from the sixth day of Creation" says my Talmudic learned angel.
