The real narcissists are the men in New York who think God's entire plan of the ages centers on them and their magazines.

You know, this is a very interesting point.

Narcissism, be definition, is treating humankind like objects. A strong argument can be made that the GB treat the R&F like objects all the time including allowing them to die (like in Malawi).

    Hi sweetbaby

I think being an activist against any Religion is a waste of time. We can offer people knowledge according to God's word but ultimately he will deal with all religions personally, all those that are false and the one that is true.

    Acts 5:38-39 (New International Version)

38 Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God."

We can present ourselves as the one true faith as apposed to others that are teaching false gospels but ultimately the person themselves has to decide. But just apposing a religion because you personally hate it, feels unproductive to me.

If I left a religion because I questioned it's teachings I wouldn't become an activist. I would spend my time more productively searching for God's true faith.

And I have to say Simon makes a fair point as well.

When dealing with a cult, such as the WT, awareness and expose is needed. A characteristic of a cult is that outsiders know very little about it. They thrive on this sort of secrecy and go unnoticed by govts as being dangerous and divisive. It is education and making others aware of the inner workings of the cult that can innoculate otherwise unsuspecting individual from being sucked up by the cult...and perhaps move governments to recognize the cultic group for what it is.

Sab- Absolutely JWs are activists. LOL And they are biased against any other group and individuals who do not accept the WT message.

In fairness though, you kind of did. By actively preaching, you are actively trying to "destroy" other religions. Yes, you will say "no, I'm not against their religion, I'm just trying to get people to know the truth." But thats exactly what people on this site are doing. They saw their religion as screwed up. It may seem like they are anti-witnesses, but they really just want the truth that they saw to be made known to others. They are as anti-JW as you are anti-Catholic from a Catholic's perspective when you are at their door.

The Society no longer limits the term "apostate" to someone leaving and trying to draw others along into their own little cult. They now say it is, or can be, simply a standing away from the "truth".

That put the final nail in the coffin for me...

    Activist:

advocating or opposing a cause or issue vigorously, esp. a political cause: Activist opponents of the President picketed the White House.

JWs advocate their own message and oppose everything outside of that vigerously...manfested in their door to door...and decisions they make in their lives.

You think raising awareness about something you've experienced to be harmful to a family is a waste of time? Is raising drug awareness a waste of time in schools?

If I left a religion because I questioned it's teachings I wouldn't become an activist. I would spend my time more productively searching for God's true faith.

Were you raised as a JW?

You show a real lack of empathy and critical thinking here, to be blunt.

Again, pretend you're a Mormon who was blind to reality your entire life and you finally realized what was going on when you reached adulthood. You brought up some issues you found in your own personal study (not exMormon websites). You were rejected by your family. You never had a real choice in the matter so it's rather unfair that when you're finally OLD ENOUGH to recognize the problems with the LDS church, your family disowns you.

Do you want to see others go through the same thing you went through?? If you truly give a damn about others, you should speak out about what you know. Right now you can't even entertain the idea that your precious truth isn't what it claims so you evade empathy.
