If Armageddon came tomorrow, would Jehovah kill a billion children?

Cofty - I meant anyone - with Christ being the authority (more than just the recordings that we have, because those only show a part, same as the recordings of a civilization 3-4 thousand years ago).

If we have a creator as Christ showed, then we cannot be more moral, wise, just or knowledgeable than Him.

The god of the bible is a blood-thirsty monster

The bible portrays the people's view of God as such at times, but their attempt to communicate it... as well as all the hand-downs and translation- have also contributed to misunderstanding, or twisting by men with an agenda.

If you honestly believe that we have a creator (and even if you don't) can you honestly think that you are better than that creator? How is that possible?

If you could find two christians who shared the same belief regarding escahtology it would be a miracle.

Ultimately it all results in billions being condemned to eternal destruction all because they don't share your desire for the never-ending celestial North Korea that is the only alternative.

What I am trying to say BD is, if you are a born-in dub, you have been trained from infancy to defend the bible and your god with all your might.

and the same excuse Jehovah's Witnesses use for their misplaced belief system is at your disposal.

No I don't believe in a creator but I do think its is beyond doubt that my morality is far better than that of the god of the bible, including the god of the NT as preached by Jesus meek and mild.

Just out of curiosity - because Christ showed His Father as His Father truly is - do you think your morality is better than His? At least according to what is written in the gospels about what He, himself, did?

So what else was he to correct them? They were HIS people.

LOL, whoa. The last thing I think I'd want to be is one of god's people.

So, there is a lot of talk of this god punishing his people. Be specific. What do you believe happens to those that don't obey? What horrible nightmare do you ascribe to in order to scare people into believing? We already see that he is brutal to the people he supposedly loves and considers his own.

Thread getting silly now?- the whole idea of the OP is that the fundi Xian belief that God kills children and soon will destroy upwards of a billion is certainly silly.

Actually watching fundie Xtians defend the idea with such ridiculous assertions like: unbelievers not understanding the supposed hallucination/acid trip of a guy that claimed Jesus visited him on an island prison 1800 years ago - that's more than getting silly, it's borderline ludicrous.

But hey, maybe that's just me.

Anyway you cut it, you're making an excuse for God - and it usually comes down to "well, we can't understand his ways".

In the meantime, I gotta go let my kids out of the stocks. They were messing around in prayer time, so they're being taught a Godly lesson. Next time, I'll move up the level of discipline if they keep disrespecting family prayers at meals. I believe my son said this in his last prayer: "Dear God, Dad worked hard for all this money to buy us food, so to you, thanks for nothing." After the God-like punishment I metted out on him, I believe he'll be more respectful from now on.

Tammy...maybe now is a good time to think about Matthew 7:6. Just a thought.

"If Armageddon came tomorrow, would Jehovah kill a billion children? .."

    Yes.

    Definitely.

And that actually shows the primitive origins of the bible...

Before the late 1800's to early 1900's, children were considered as "little adults" - and were often saddled with adult responsibilities at a VERY early age... All one has to do, is look at the portraits of [noble and royal] children from the 1500's to 1600's to see that they were dressed as miniature adults... Though they were allowed to play at a young age, their schooling in preparation for adult responsibilities began very early - around 6 years old - and many young royals were put through a grueling school day that would leave many modern adults exhausted - just look at the workload for young Elizabeth the first...

Observe the use of children as labor force during the Industrial Revolution... [For that matter, observe the CONTINUING use of child labor for the clothing industry, among others...] Observe the use of young boys as "powder monkeys" [I believe that's the term...] - used on British warships to carry black powder from the magazine to the cannons during battle...

If I recall correctly, it wasn't until the late 1800's that feminist reformers began to make headway in limiting and eliminating child labor in England, America, and other places...

So it's no surprise that ancient Middle Eastern men would consider children to be bloodguilty - accountable to their volcano "god" - as 'miniature' adults - heck, the Israelites killed many a child in the process of conquering cities, didn't they?
