Sam, you're kind of full of yourself. I doubt the plutocrats will have much mercy on little guys like you as our American way of life crumbles around us. You are an American, too.

FHN, please explain what you mean when you say "full of yourself"? What are you trying to communicate?

I don't mean any disrespect, I just have my own opinions. Those opinions may not match the majority...

After all of the years that I have been self employed, an inventor and mass producer of global product myself, I am reafirmed through discussions like these that there will always people that think they're not getting their share of the "pie", that they are entitled to more.
That entitlement attitude is what drove the need to go overseas with our business. Profits are 70% higher and people are exstatic to just have a job, not so in America. So Americans will have to live with it...end of story.

I wonder what it's like to be so far over our heads. Better it enjoy it. It's not going to last.

Wis. Assembly passes bill taking away union rights

AP – Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker addresses the media at the state Capitol in Madison, Wis., Thursday, Feb. … By TODD RICHMOND, Associated Press – 11 mins ago

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Assembly early Friday passed a bill that would strip most public workers of their collective bargaining rights — the first significant action on the new Republican governor's plan.

The vote put an end to three straight days of punishing debate, but the political standoff over the bill is far from over.

The Assembly vote sends the bill on to the state Senate, where minority Democrats have been missing for a week. No one knows when — or if — they'll return from their hideout in Illinois. Republicans who control the Senate sent state troopers out looking for them at their homes on Thursday, but they turned up nothing.

Gov. Scott Walker's proposal contains a number of provisions he says are designed to fill the state's $137 million deficit and lay the groundwork for fixing a projected $3.6 billion shortfall in the upcoming 2011-13 budget. The flashpoint is language that would strip almost all public sector workers of their right to collectively bargain benefits and work conditions.

Democrats and unions see the measure as an attack on workers' rights and an attempt to cripple union support for Democrats. Unions have said they would be willing to accept a provision that would increase workers' contributions to their pensions and health care, provided they could still bargain collectively. But Walker has refused to compromise.

Tens of thousands of people have jammed the state Capitol since last week to protest, pounding on drums and chanting so loudly that police who are providing security have resorted to ear plugs. Hundreds have taken to sleeping in the building overnight, dragging in air mattresses and blankets.

The unions are corrupt, incompetent, greedy, criminal, complacent, socialist and imoral. Union protesters proclaim they are fighting for their rights of the "working man" On the contrary, it is the American taxpayers who are trying to protect themselves from you! Public unions are taking advantage of us, via very high taxes to pay for their over bloated fulll lavish, benefits! You should make sacrafices and contribute just like the rest of us in the real world. What makes them so special? We are as hardworking. Despite this argument, states are broke, on the brink of collapse and you dont see the problem in this?! The cookie jar is empty! The taxpayers are just trying to get by paying for their own benefits and health insurance! Your crybaby, entitlement mentality has got to go! You all sound like spoiled children. Do you want to know why companies are outsourcing? What company in their right mind is going to hire a union employee for $40.00 an hour to turn a wrench?!? My single mother friend was charged $700.00 by a union plumbers to fix a simple problem. Oh yeah, that was after their 2 hour nap in their van. I could go on and on. Look our childrens tests scores, that our being taught by the teachers union, they are horrible! Why do you think Chicago has a lottery system to get into charter schools that are non-union. Unions= complacency. Pay should be based upon performance and merit! How as a nation are we going to compete in this global economy?! You have done this all to yourselves! The cost of hiring a union employee far exceeds the national inflation rate. It has finally caught up to you all! The American people are wisiing up and educating themselves on the "peoples union" To all those Wisconsin democrats who ran away, you are by no means heros but, a total disgrace and a slap in the face to our democratic process. So your hiding out in Il, for all we know playing chess with ex-govenor Ryan in the vistor's center. Please come back and do your jobs, if you need help getting back we heard Blagovich has alot of time and I am sure will be willing to give you a ride back to Madison. Where oh where can we find any politian with integrity to do the right thing for the American public? Who is out there that will work for the public and not his pocket? Where have the men of god gone?

The Dems who are hiding should be dismissed from office, end of story. There is no point electing people who won't deal with the tough decisions they were elected to deal with.

    Sam,

Workers are entitled to make a living wage. When you contribute to the success of a company, wouldn't it make sense that you're rewarded for that? I think it was reported last year or the year before that businesses had plenty of capital, were increasing profits, but they weren't hiring or raising pay and were still laying people off. They've figured out that workers are in a situation were they have to put up with it because there aren't any other jobs to be had. They can ask them to do more for less money and make more profit. But we're forgetting that people who don't work or don't make enough, can't spend and businesses suffer in the end.

Anecdotal: My first job, I worked min wage as a housekeeper at a Holiday Inn, the work sucked but I absolutely loved management. I moved to the front desk. Got a raise for that, got a raise every six months. Three years in the hotel gets sold. New owners cut everyone's pay. I got cut down to min wage even though I was working two departments. They cut staff also, so in each department I was carrying twice as much as I was before and expected to do it in the same amount of time. I get told by management there will be a front desk manager position created soon. Awesome. So I volunteer to learn as much as I can so I'll be considered, I end up working as a breakfast attendant and night auditor in addition to my other departments. I ask for a raise, no raises they can't afford it. Working night audit, I know what they're pulling in every night, they could have afforded a $0.25 raise for each department I was in; that's all I wanted. I can't ask to not work in the other departments now as my hours will get cut and no one else is hiring. And I didn't get the management position either. They gave it to a computer-illiterate 70 yr old (and that's not agism, the woman was senile and rude, awesome guest service material).

But this is what I'm talking about. I knew what they were making each month, I did the accounts payable and recievable, I knew what the taxes where, I could estimate what they were paying employees. They were making a really good profit, but they couldn't afford to reward me an extra dollar an hour? I finally quit last April and started college.

I think a lot of people are in that same situation. Go ahead and pay the CEOs more, I agree, but does it have to be that much more? You never hear that prices are rising to pay the executives, no it's always because gas is going up or the minimum wage is increased. Give people jobs that they can actually live on, give them money to spend and I bet we'll see the economy expand again. It's that simple, imo.

And sorry for straying off topic, Jeff.

A certain buffoon, totally oblivious to the responses already made to his statements, and utterly incapable of responding to them, keeps parroting his nonsense about our sense of entitlement being the cause of our problems.

Already it's been said that jobs that were never union to begin with or that were minimum wage jobs have been shipped overseas to where the wages are far below our minimum wage. Already it's been sugested to the likes of him that the only "solution" in keeping with that mentaility of his is that everyone learn a new language, wear new clothes and move overseas to where they should gladly grovel for a dollar an hour job.

And what, as I just said, is his response to those points.Absolutely nothing, just perpetual parroting of the noises he hears from the elitist mindf*ckers he worships.

Squawk! I'm too stupid to think. I only repeat.

Now could I have my cracker?
