  In the reality in which we live, all things die, ALL THINGS.

  If you choose to live in a pseudo-philosophical/scientific world where we apply the rule that all matter and energy must continue to exist in one form or the other and that nothing is totally destroyed and gone forever but simply converts, then ALL THINGS CONVERT. Nothing stays constant forever. All stars CONVERT ("die" in my reality) sooner or later. All plants and animals of all kinds die.

  Let me finish the circular argument:

  Of course I know where this argument leads, but there is absolutely no proof that we convert to a higher spiritual plane or something of that sort where our "essence" is contained in some way anymore than a star does all that when it dies.

  No. Energy is not alive in itself. Living organisms consume energy, and the matter from which we are formed can comprise energy. For instance, there is a point of combustion at which human flesh will burn and generate energy transfer - not efficiently of course. All matter - living and dead contains energy.

  Energy itself is not alive.

  What are you getting at?

  To use Jerry's point. If a star 'dies', the energy is transferred somewhere into the universe. The energy just changes. But it is still just energy. Nothing more, nothing less.

  Life is a unique application of molecules, containing energy. There is precisely zero evidence for any idea that the energy from those molecules transfers to another living vehicle. Zero. Eventually, your dead body, and it's energy will be absorbed into the universe. Some living things will use it - like the daisies on your grave. But life - your life - is over. Forever.

  Recyled phone books become cardboard cups for coffee. Yet the matter and energy are now different. There is none of phone book left when it becomes a cup. You can't look up my phone number on it. It is totally changed forever. Atoms and molecules are transferred. That's all.

  it was in response to something psac wrote, the talk of energy being alive or dead. i dont think it makes a lot more sence than talking about spin being alive or dead, or momentum.
