  The relief that I have experienced many times came from external phenomenon which I attribute, not to my own power, of course, but to a benovolence that I shall call Jehovah (because I want to) so I might say "thank you". Can't thank myself

  So then, when I find relief, what do you attribute that to? Do you think only believers find relief? The point I'm making is you choose to credit a god with your relief, because that is what you want to believe. But if that were true, then believers would find more relief than nonbelievers. That simply is not true. The relief comes regardless. So how can you KNOW that it's not simply a psychological function of all humans?

  I mean it seriously. I don't see any evidence for any of the currently held concepts of God . . . does that make me an Atheist? I also don't discount the possibility that a superior first cause might exist . . . what am I now? . . . Agnostic? I don't like labels and none really describes my "beliefs" because I don't really have one on God.

  How 'bout Agtheist? Athinostic?

  I am getting the message from some posters that believers believe because we need to. There is something about us that is lacking so we need to fill the empty space with believing. . . . N.drew

  Thanks for the suggestion . . . but that sounds like a better description of many of the Christians I used to know.

  Maybe this thread should really say : Religionists Please Explain (That is to say people who beleive in one religion or another christian or otherwise)

  Why would the Judeo/christian God select a minority group to lead to salvation ,excluding the rest of mankind

  What about the Taoists

  What about the Muslims

  What about the religous beleifs of India

  What about the religous beleifs of Africa

  What about the religious beleifs Pakistan

  What about the religious beleifs of the incas

  " " ' the Egyptians

  "" " " the Chinese

  " " " the Aborigines ( AUST)

  And we can go on & on,why is "God" so selective of one nation and so dismissive of all other nations that he so called ,into being,or is he in fact just a figment of our imagination
