oh sod it......inspired by you all, Im going to get some flyers printed off tomorrow once Ive got some paper.......

Ive got agoraphobia, so the best I can do is to get hubby to take me around the entire circuit of out village, and pin them to the wooden poles and in bus shelters. I cant face doing the house to house thing, my nerves wont stand for it.......I could manage my street, thats about it.

Come to think of it, theres a nice little notice board located about 30 yards from the KH........

They cant hurt me. Im not scared anymore. I'll save one for my window, when are the Memorial fliers due again?

Also those who are reading this thread, it's not too late to still write to Senator Xeophon of Australia who is an advocate against cults and sexual child abuse.

Damm Cedar, you almost make me wish that I was a Brit, or knew some, who were not on JWN! Are you sure that former colonists can't sign your petition? Just kidding. Have you thought about sending the flyers through the internet anonymously, like I wrote about in http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/211893/1/Youe28099ve-Got-Mail-TM

Good-luck and I will continue to write letters to politicians and other groups in the USA to prevent the WTBTS from receiving tax exempt status.

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

    Robert

You know I like to think that Britain is a relatively liberal country. And my guess is that the insticts of many people when confronted with this petition will be that it unfairly targets a particular group in a way that is counter to our liberal culture. I happen to think that is an objection that could be overcome, but it would take a fair amount evidence and explanation to make the case to someone who is not familiar with the issues, assuming they are interested enough to take the time. So unfortunately I think it is not likely to gain much support beyond ex-Jehovah's Witnesses. Or if it does gain support then it might be for the wrong reasons: Evangelicals and Catholics might be eager to sign for example, more for religious reasons than because of the three points in the statement.

slimboyfat - you disappoint me! The petition doesn't "target" anyone. It merely points out that a religion that is detrimental to the emotional and physical wellbeing of its members should not receive millions in HMRC gift aid handouts because it is not in the public benefit!

Surely I don't need to convince you of all that?! And of the 60 million brits who are regularly called on by JWs, you're telling me that 100,000 wouldn't sign the petition if everyone knew about it?? You wanna rethink that stance at all?!!

Well it does single out Jehovah's Witnesses, and for some good reasons too!

I am not saying the petition is intolerant. I am saying that it could easily appear that way to the average person in the UK, which is unfortunate but perhaps unavoidable because it is a complex issue.
