even if they did get these checks what would it matter? If they don't report accusations a person's name will never get on the list

This was what I have been worried about all along on this legal effort, Lady Lee. Probably most of the JW molestors or potential molestors would slip through the net.

And certainly the JWs are NEVER going to change their secret policy of covering up the crimes.

However, at least the Unthank case got it out into the public eye for a few months.

… perp … borg … Brother Van Der Sluis (sounds like: Van Der Sloot???)...

    Barb,

    Thanks for publicizing this.

Is this audio recording available so it can be thoroughly listened to and reviewed for authenticity? I have a twitch in my gut about this thing.

Marvin, I can only guess that the "perp" and "borg" were somehow mistranslated from the tape. No JW elder would use language like this from the platform.

On the other hand, I cannot imagine in what reasonable context those two words could be mistaken and recorded as the real language.

Maybe somebody here from Victoria Australia was actually there and heard this in person?

When I was in the midst of my exit from the Watchtower my older brother told me I was being a complete and obvious fool. He told me that I lacked the ability to "separate Jehovah from the Organization" like him. He acted as if it were a process that you don't start out having. Every single time I would bring up some problem I had with the organization's policies or doctrines he seemed to pat me on the head and say, "There, there, stupid boy Jehovah and the Organization are completely separate." This is evidence that it's extremely important to the Society for their members to hold this opinion. Why does one constantly feel the need to remind one's self that their organization could never be implicated for something they do?

Former and current devout Jehovah's Witnesses all seem to exhibit traits of Martyr Complex. The Watchtower's program is extremely sophisticated with many built in defenses. It's strongest defense seems to be it's ability to harbor extreme codependency in it's subjects. Sometimes I think we all unknowingly minimize the true nature of what happens to people in the Watchtower. Maybe the Governing Body are captives of a concept, but I don't think Vincent Toole Solicitors are. And even if they are, there's gotta be someone who knows exactly what has been going on for so long. *shudder*

Codependency (or codependence, co-narcissism or inverted narcissism) is unhealthy love and a tendency to behave in overly passive or excessively caretaking ways that harm one's relationships and quality of life. It also often involves placing a lower priority on one's own needs, while being excessively preoccupied with the needs of others. Codependency can occur in any type of relationship, including family, work, friendship, and also romantic, peer or community relationships. Codependency may also be characterized by denial, low self-esteem, excessive compliance, or control patterns. Narcissists are considered to be natural magnets for the codependent.

So Sab - what is your opinion on the "perp" and "borg" words in the supposed transcript?

Hey james, I have the opinion that the elders words were not mistranscribed, but more of an actual "slip" on the elders part. The letter he was reading was making him extremely angry, at least that's what it seemed like to me. He kept repeating the obvious CULT language over and over:

"Sorry, I’ll start that sentence again. Such Bible study activity is part of a publisher’s personal ministry and the publisher is not a representative or a volunteer of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of Australia."

The man that is reading the letter cannot believe his own mouth. For an organization like the Watchtower who boast about their billions of hours (on the backs of the R&F) of service to this planet and then go and command them to not consider themselves a representative of the Watchtower? The utter contempt that the elder must have felt for his leaders. Utter disillusionment is the only human response possible when put in charge of that kind of circus. The reason why he was repeating it so much was because he likely knew he was being recorded, or that he was just yelling at anyone in earshot "THIS IS STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSES MOUTH! THEY ARE A CULT! GET THE &^%$ OUT!" without facing the spiritual guillotine.

The mad man dictator often gets shot by one of his own trusted men whos just trying to stop his mad rage on his own people.

Sab's theory above sounds like an interesting one - probably impossible to prove, though...

My theory is that some ex-JW who transcripted the recording let his imagination get away from him...

Sab's theory is a possibility. It is possible that the elder reading the letter that night was a closet apostate and it was a slip.

But that's a pretty big slip. There would be hell to pay for a slip like that, once the Bethel monitors saw the transcript. If anyone is in that area, it would be interesting to know if that guy is still an elder or not...

I think your theory of the transcriper letting his imagination get away is the more plausible one...

What about " Brother Van Der Sluis" (sounds like: Van Der Sloot???)?

Am I the only one who recognizes that name?
