    Mister Biggs,

You right, I don't think I heard this stuff actually said at a meeting, but just batted around by different elders "off the record".

Crrect me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that the jist of the "tacking" article the WTS put out a while back?

happenings at Mister Biggs' BS (how apropos!) last night included:

"Now, if this watchman saw dust kicking up way in the distance, even though he couldn't see what was causing the dust to stir, would you want him to sound the alarm or would you want him to wait and see until it got close enough?"

The conductor's wife answers, "We'd want him to sound it immediately even if it's a false alarm. It's better to be safe than sorry. And today, people try to say that we are false prophets because of, say, the 1914 thing. But the faithful and discreet slave were just trying to sound a warning because it could have meant the lives of those involved. So, we should appreciate that they are eager to help us, even though at times they may be wrong. They are really just trying to take precautions just in case danger may be in the horizon."

Sounding a warning is one thing. False alarms are quite another. If you shout FIRE in a crowded theatre, and people are hurt in the resulting confusion to escape, you are liable for the injuries, are you not?

When someone on an airplane jumps up and says I have a bomb! even if he's lying, he gets prosecuted.

When has the WTS ever taken responsibility for the injuries they've caused by their false alarms??

    NEVER!!

    Love, Scully

Hey Mr. Biggs.... I came on the site today to post about what happened last night at my book study too, but you beat me to it! I didn't have something quite that interesting, but i did pick out a few key points.

    1. On page 221, paragrph 10, it reads, "To this day religious leaders conspire to have Jehovah's Witnesses banned, persecuted, or punitively taxed. But as this prophecy reminds us, Jehovah sees all such treacherous dealing, and he will not let it go unpunished.

    - A sister commented on how *obviously* this was alluding to the Witnesses in France being taxed and how unfair it was because they were the only organization targeted.... All in attendance (minus me) proceeded to go on and on about how the Witnesses are picked on by everyone... Very annoying

    2. The following sentence said, "He will bring an end to all religions that misrepresent him and mistreat his people." Rev. 18:8 was cited. That reads, "That is why in one day her plagues will come, death and mourning and famine, and she will be completely burned with fire, because Jehovah God, who judged her, is strong." (NWT)

    - Now, this sentence really made me think. Thay are applying this scripture to all other religions, however, read it again, and I think we can agree that it can be applied to the WTS. "misrepresent him" is found by saying all but 6 million people will be killed at Armageddon, out of love..... "mistreat his people" is obvious when one reads what happens to anyone who brings up a doubt to an elder, suposedly in confidence. Or, when the blame game is played by the GB and the publishers are portrayed as the ones who conjured up the notion of certain dates having significance. Sad......

Anyhow, those are two things that stuck out in my mind... what does everyone else think?

A watchman eh? Right on, brother, right ON!

My feeling is that in the cut-throat market of corporate hiring this particular watchman would have a tough time finding a job, seeing as how he'd consistently made failed predictions of the [b]end of the frikking world, publically[b] for over a century now.

Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, thrice is a conspiracy, as I'm fond of saying.

Here's a nice anology for you YoYoMama:

If a man came to your door about once every 10 years every century and banged you over the head with a large hammer, would you open the door for him the next time he came around? I doubt it.

The earlier in the forenoon you take the sun bath, the greater will be the beneficial effect, because you get more of the ultra-violet rays, which are healing. - The Golden Age

    collegegirl-
I forgot about those points. That part of the lesson really got under my skin.

    SYN, et al-
    Your points are well taken.

By the way, the conductor and the audience kept mentioning how they don't just stand in one place. They continually circle around the watchtower keeping their eyes open for trouble on the horizon.

    Hello Mister Biggs,

    thanks for sharing with us
these ..."pearls " or if you like " gems"!

Personally I do agree totally with
Scully's comments and I do like also
    Collegegirl's comment on the application
    of Rev. 18:8...spot on!

The WTBST "always" applies to others...
they are the " holy ones ", "the anointed ones",
the " co-heirs with Jesus Christ.."
so they know it better than the R&F.

    Greetings, J.C.MacHislopp

    Mr. Biggs,

Thanks for the info...it's been years since I've had to endure a book study, nice to be kept in the loop by those of you who are so "long-suffering" Btw...I want you to know that I thoroughly enjoy your posts and your sense of humor; I'm glad you're here

Scully pretty much summed up my thoughts on the matter, as I immediately thought the analogy incorrect. It's one thing to make false predictions and never apologize for them...quite another to ruin people's lives, their futures, or even to be responsible for physical injury and/or death because of their "false alarms"!!!! Makes me see RED

I found it interesting that in last week's(?) study, on page 197, the WTS admits that they have sought to proselytise the churches of Christendom and that's where their increase has come from. Note page 197, paragraph 18. How about "making disciples of all the nations"? Wouldn't that mean bringing the unbelievers to Christ?

Also in the study you refer to, on page 229, paragraph 25, it exhorts the R&F to "scan(ning) the horizon for any sign of impending danger". This seems a curious instruction to me. Danger from what? And what should they do about it? Indeed, what do they do about it?

    Oh, they're a weird mob!

    Cheers,
    Ozzie

The watchmen with seeing-eye dogs do a superlative job. Please don't be so critical...if you want to help please send treats for the dogs.

The trouble is the fart heads who call themselves the "watchman class" have been a "SPOOKED" watchman class, crying wolf at every little noise or sighting of movement in the distance.

A watchman with such a record for false alarms I think would be removed by Jehovah for being such an ass-hole. For constant raising of false alarms will make everyone not take seriously the watchman when they really need to.

If someone lived a trillion X longer than you, and had a billion X more reasoning ability would he come to the same conclusions as you?
