AG - I've told you this before - quote marks are normally used to either reverse meaning or quote. When you say "peace" - since you aren't quoting - you are saying the opposite. Its beautifully ironic.

Tin hat on for the huge riposte.

I've got good news for the atheists on this board.
You are free! You can believe what you want!We don't care!No-one cares what you believe! And what's more, we'll defend your right to believe what you want.

The crowd roars! The people are on their feet! The applause is deafening! Then, from somewhere, a sound begins rise... from one end of the forum to the another! What are they saying?? The noise reaches a crescendo and then it become clear- the crowd is chanting:

    Go, Char... GO!

    !!!

Peace (and dear Tec - peace to you, too! - thank you for trying. I tried. Now, I think I'll leave that one to you, my dear - )

    A slave of Christ,

    SA

Yes, and I got it when you "told" me, Professor Q. But since I know that YOU know what I mean... and this is not a classroom or academic (or formal in any way) setting... I'll just hang on to my style... even if that's not okay with you.

    Capiche?

    A slave of Christ,

SA, who doesn't think you need a tin hat, at all... as nothing "dropping" from the "sky" on this... that I'm aware of, anyway -

Even though you'd be raising the rafters with your protests if anyone attacked your lack of belief (which they don't) it suits you to try to tear down the beliefs of others - Chariklo

On the contrary. If I am wrong please tell me how. Give me a reason to reconsider because I don't want to be wrong for one moment longer than necessary.

Q, quote marks are also normally used to accentuate the fact that a word is being used in a specific, perhaps unusual way, or as a wordless synonym for "so to speak"... Note the entirely normal and appropriate use of quotation marks there.

And in many other ways, often for emphasis or as "tongue in cheek". Marks appropriately used again there, too.

i am sure that when you've thought about it you'll be able to come up with further examples for yourself.
