Confessions are an integral part of the WT's "two witness" policy.
Imagine how much more of a clusterfuck they would be if they started viewing confessions as weak or irrelevant.

There is no formula for this. The point is, you would rather not accept a confession because you doubt it. Human nature tells us that most, not all, will confess because it unloads them. Now if you are being tortured, that confession might very well be questioned. But torture is not what typically happens. It is rarer but , yes, it is done......honestly, if I knew that a person had info that they were withholding and because of that, many lives old be lost, torture in that case is not abominable.

Me neither ... if he's responsible for what they claim - but I'd prefer there to be some actual evidence and proper process.

I love how GOP types talk about how they must have protection from the government in the form of guns but then foreit all the other rights they have in the name of public security. What is to stop the government from just declaring anyone that has a gun a terrorsist and killing them in the name of protecting the public. As of right now absolutely nothing.
Just remember this when you go for you gun when the government comes to seize it illegally. We will later that night hear a story on the news about a white guy gun nut shooting at a SWAT team (failing to mention what the warrant issued for and that it might of been sketchy at best or even the wrong house) and how they had to use lethal force on (btw the politically incorrect term is KILL but that would of course make the police look bad) him to protect public safety (which it didn't). After the story is over we will say well he deseved it, he was nuts for shooting at the cops.
