    NeverKnew:

I admire the the JWs knowledge of OT scriptures and stories.

In reality, the JWs are just as blind as other Christians as to just how disgusting the 'god' depicted in the Old Testament actually is. They're more than happy to cherry-pick the 'nice(r)' bits.

NeverKnew is right, you have to look at the content of what is being said rather than the quantity.

    Reality check for Jeffro:

To demonstrate the extent WT literature & doctrine have influenced the average JW on how much emphasis is placed on Jehovah as opposed to our Lord Jesus Christ-next time you are at a meeting take special note of how many times Jehovah is mentioned and how very little, if any, mention is made of our Great Teacher and Savior Jesus Christ.

I’ll tell you ahead of time what your notes will reflect, for example during a public talk and Watchtower study meeting:

    1. Jesus Christ will be mentioned during opening and closing prayer…..2 times!

    2. From the opening prayer, through the public talk onto the Watchtower study discussion with audience participation and finally to the closing prayer Jehovah would have been mentioned some ……200 times!

Get back to us with your results…..please!

next time you are at a meeting

The 'next time I'm at a meeting' will be never.

our Lord Jesus Christ ... our Great Teacher and Savior Jesus Christ

The result is... I don't care. The claim in the OP was a lie, irrespective of any other conclusions that might be drawn from other data.

Jehovah doesn't exist. Jesus, if he ever existed at all, is dead. It hardly matters how much either of them are mentioned. And it is even worse for the OP to lie about it.

(And as stated previously, it's unsurprising that a nontrinitarian religion focuses more on 'God' than 'Jesus'.)

    Welllllllllll....

Given your benchmarks, and IF this data could be used as as a qualitative barameter and not the quantitative one that it is, it would be more appropriate to compare the ratio of Jesus/Jehovah. As long as you were consistent from year to year in your search criteria, one would derive the following:

    2010-12

    6.08%

    2000s

    5.21%

    1990s

    6.41%

    1980s

    8.30%

    1970s

    11.26%

So, while there HAS been a decline in the ratio of references of Jesus to Jehovah in the annual yearbooks and his honorable mentions represent a 50% reduction of what it had been in the 70's, the trend for this decade is showing a slight improvement (or WTS error - not sure).

Once this thread's analysis has been completed, I'm sure the Yearbook Committee will make the appropriate "adjustments."

    ADCMS,

Ten years? I didn't know that. Good to know.... Is it the same info as on the CD for that time period? It'd be nice to not have to bother you guys for CD info.

    NeverKnew:

references of Jesus to Jehovah in the annual yearbooks

Searching for "Jehovah" in the Yearbooks of Jehovah's Witnesses is hardly a balanced comparison. Nearly half the search results for Jehovah in such a search are in the phrase, Jehovah's Witnesses.

The other main problem is there is no benchmark for how often Jesus 'should' be mentioned.

uni-platformist? You obviously don't know me.

    AH! Good point!

SO, perhaps we need to modify EdenOne's calculation slightly by reducing the number of honorable mentions of "Jehovah" by the combo "Jehovah's Witnesses".

    Great catch! :)

Edit: And we don't need to know how often Jesus *should* be mentioned. The poster's concerns were related to a reduction in mentions so therefore the WTS can be used as a barometer against itself.
