Seems there are personality issues that I was unaware of before I entered this thread. I would still have entered it, though, merely because the title demanded a response.

    PointBlank:
I can follow what you're saying, as my case was similar. I came to Christ as a devout JW elder. It was another couple of months before I came to understand the Trinity doctrine.
It was shortly after that that I came to realise that some issues are salvation issues (like accepting Christ and being born again) and some issues are not (like believing in hell, or not).
Romans 8 is a pivotal scripture, in this regard.

I think Calvin was genuine and had his head in the right direction, but many of his followers have not.
HyperCalvinists abound, and they are very mislead, IMHO.

    RR:
If you have been called by the Father to a faith in Christ by Holy Spirit, I can happliy call you "brother", regardless of your doctrinal persuasion.

    Clash:
Your demeanor and dogmatism do neither you or the gospel any credit.
Sorry, bro, but you either need to lighten up or realise what really are the fundamentals.

Did you never hear of the story of the Calvinist whose main detractor (an Arminian) died. Upon being told by a colleague "You'll never see HIM again", he replied "You are right, because he will be so much nearer the face of God than I" (inaccurate quote from memory).

I can't stand dogma - absolute truth is held by one alone!
    Was that a dogmatic statement???

    Was that a dogmatic statement???

Actually yes, of the worst kind. It's exactly the dogma that created the mess that is belief in the unprovable. Grow up and admit you don't know.

    Clash tells me
Because I(plum)do not belong to an organized religious system run by men with mens rules and mens doctrins I am condemed.
    Clash said:

You are unsaved and are going to parish in hell unless God has mercy on you and you repent of you sins and trust Christ.

No plum it is not I but the scriptures make such a pronouncement. Any bible believing Christian can make the same pronouncement. It is the bible that condemns you not I.

Well That’s me a Bible believing Christian
    So guess what Clash.
    In your own words
    This comes right back atcha,
    To Clash,

You are unsaved and are going to parish in hell unless God has mercy on you and you repent of you sins and trust Christ.

    And why?
Because the same scripture YOU quoted to me. 1 Cor 2:14 states:

14The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned

This is a description of you Clash
, NOT a building with chairs in it.
Learn how to read your Bible.

I have read a few Bibles. I plan on reading more. I learned to read at the age of 5 with the bible prior to entering Kindergarten.
I am dyslexic, but because I started reading and learning how to pronounce BIG words which are in the Bible at a very early age. It helped me to make it through school without many of the difficulties that thousands of dyslexic children are faced with everyday.
I feel I have a fairly decent understanding of scripture and every time I read through various books I learn and pick up on new meanings that were overlooked the previous times.

Talking to you (or corresponding with you) is probably nothing more then a waist of time but no problem it’s your time that will be wasted not mine.

You do sound to me though as someone who only posts here to be offensive and anger other posters. While pretending to be some type of Christian.
Well at least you’re off the streets when you are posting so maybe we are doing a public service here.

    Hello to all,
I am new on this site. I have been a Christian (presbyterian or baptist) all of my 26 years. I come from a very religious family. I've had a very close JW friend for 4 years. He never pushed anything religious on me, nor I to him. But in the last week or so, I have gotten a very strong interest to learn more about JW. He is talking to me, and showing me things in my own Bible that I never even noticed before. How can being a JW be so bad in people's eyes? We still serve the same God, and try to live by the Bible. It can't be that different can it?

    Thanks for reading,
    Elizabeth

RR, good answer. I suspect that you are right about Clash not accepting you as a brother. Will you accept him, or is he toast because he's in the wrong camp?

    solosecret,

we can't possibly answer that question in a single thread, but I suggest you repost to a new topic and you will get some good responses. Also, keep reading. After you've done your objective study I think you will get your answer. Check out the links at the bottom of the page also. (My short answer is that JW's do not serve the same god that you have come to understand is your god. They tell you that, and even some believe it, but the reality is that they do not know the traditional god of christianity. I'll be happy to elaborate when you start your other topic thread)

    Little Toe:
I visited your webpage to see if you had your testimony up. I want to thank you for the inspiration it gives. I also read your DA letter. It was great. I can't even imagine DA'ing from the platform.

I used to have my DA letter and testimony online. They will be put back online soon. It's wonderful to see that the Lord is moving in other people's lives. Like you, the message of the Bible came alive for me (literally) after receiving the Holy Spirit and it became a personal letter from my heavenly Father. But like you said in your testimony (I think), "I" sometimes get in the way of the Holy Spirit. And He graciously steps aside until I come to my senses.

As for the trinity, I didn't say that I didn't believe it or understand it (I've not stated my position). It was one of the first doctrines that I studied indepth, even as an active JW. However, while visiting various churches, listening to christian speakers, and talking to professed believers, I've found that many mainstream christians don't really have any better of a mental grasp on it than the JW's. For instance, I've heard Jesus referred to as the Father and even called Father during prayer. It seems they've confused the persons in an attempt to keep from dividing the substance.

Now: As for being associated with the person that started this thread (CCR), I must say that I was also ignorant of previous personality clashes and ongoing arguments, and don't have a clue as to whether this person is christian. I responded because, like Little Toe, I wanted to state my position regarding the Lord Jesus Christ. I also wanted others on the board to know that there are xjw's that have been found by the Truth (a person, not a religous persuasion). He is real, He is alive, and He's waiting for each one of us to come to Him for salvation, but we can only come to Him if the Father draws us. That was the sole purpose for my entrance into this thread.

RR ; Quote: Born Christians like Clash, would never accept me as their brethren, because I do not grasp orthodoxy, I don't believe in the Trinity or triune god, I do not believe in hellfire, the immortal soul or the be saved now or burn foprever later theology. So I don't represent his brand of Christianity, and he doesn't represent mine.

I feel the same way as of now but I am re-searching the believableness of the bible. Have you done much of it?

Questions come my my mind about:
    1. The way the God of the bible works...Killing millions in the old testament...turning the other cheek and loving your enemy in the NT?

    2. Why is their less than a handfull of historians/writers...other than Jesus believing Jews... who wrote about Jesus, who overturned the Roman world?

    3. What about the fact about the Catholic church being the librarians of which HOLY BOOKS would make up the bible as we know it.....I thought God would decide that ...if a book is what he wanted.

    4. It has been said, many bible stories are identical to pagan myths....Is it possible the Jews were influenced by much of this and if this were true...would make the bible an absurd story book of a fanatical group called JEWS?

I don't feel THREATENED to inquire here
    ....do you?

    SEAKEN,

Although I am a Christian (I live my life according to the teachings of Christ), I do not consider myself to be in the same "category" as clash at all. It's obvious from his posts that we are very different in our beliefs and life practices. His intentions may be good, but unfortunately we all know where that can lead to if we're not careful.

If clash is truly trying to convey the LOVE of Christ and the promises of Christ's Kingdom, his approach might be a bit different, IMO. Judging is NOT the job of a true follower of Christ. LOVING is. Judgement is reserved for God.

IMO, if you follow the two main commandments of Jesus:

    1. Love the Lord with your whole heart, soul, mind, and body.
    2. Love your neighbor as yourself.

...arguments over doctrine and other mainstream Christianity go by the wayside. Love breeds respect. If one can't show love, they can't show respect.

I am still trying to understand or grasp some of the doctrinal beliefs of many Christian churches. Some are just too difficult for me to accept, others not to much so. But when I really think about it, my relationship with Christ has nothing to do with what doctrinal issues I believe or NOT believe in. It has nothing to do with how many people I "convert" to Christianity. It has everything to do with how much love I show to them, even when I don't feel like it. It has everything to do with how patient and respectful I am of others...how much dignity I give them - even if they don't deserve it. THAT is how Christ lived his life - that's what I strive to do with mine.

I'm a work in progress. I have much to overcome and improve on.

    Just my two cents,
    Andi
