LUHE "When hindus and sikhs feel alienated or suffer racism, they don't become 'radicalised' and kill somebody. This is why this debate must be had." Again your ignorance shines through. Sikh Extremists and Hindu Extremists have killed many including prominent poltiicians in India but I guess because they are Indians it doesn't count. I aslo note that you and Simon shifted ground from stating that Death to Homosexuals was a core belief of Moderate Muslims to now make it more about the fact that the Muslim world is about 50 years behind the West on acceptance of homosexuality - but that is an entirely different thing. Even on the Death to Apostates angle Simon has admitted that only in some more backward Muslim countries are there a majority of Muslims who believe in death to Apostates. And yes orthodox Islam is not the most enlightened religion (unfortunately the peak of Islamic enlightenment was 100s of years ago) but that does not justify the vilification being propagated here. I notice that most of what I post has not been responded to but is just neatly ignored as inconvenient. Fraz

    Frazzeled,

    Are you a muslim?.

Do you agree with child marriages?

Do you agree with the your right to beating black and blue of your wife if you so desire?

Do you agree with honor killings?.

Do you agree with sharia law?

Do you agree that the Holy Qur'an is literally correct

I notice you do not reply to my questions, but instead try to justify another point....

Simple yes or no answer will be ok....

Ok Frazzled, I take your point. There are hindu and sikh extremists that I hadn't considered because they mostly occur in India. I am guilty of caring for my homeland and placing its needs above other countries' needs. I'd guess that most of the planet's 7 billion people are also guilty of this.

Me and Simon haven't shifted the ground re homosexuality - it's you who have dodged my question:

Were your gay Egyptian men walking hand in hand with their partners in public? If not, in what way were they being 'openly gay' and tolerated?

JGNAT - Simon, I don't believe you are well enough informed on the Muslim "core beliefs". From what I understand Muslims are unified in behaviour (the five pillars) and are not as hung up on doctrine.

did you see the video above? what more information do you need?

mana - if you have followed this post you would realize that not only am I not a muslim but I am not a fan of Islam so my answer to all of your banal questions is no and I would point out that moderate muslims would all say no to those questions as well - child marriage, wife beating and honor killings are not Islamic practices they are cultural practices - moderate muslims do not want sharia law as national law and do not interpret the Quran literally (I have made this point countles times in this debate). What I find disturbing is the Islamic Strawman you people - Simon included - have created by selectively taking muslims expressing extreme views and then characterising them as the views of moderate muslims - which you then attack with abandon. There is a foul odour of confirmation bias in this thread.

'From what I understand Muslims are unified in behaviour and are not as hung up on doctrine' - jgnat

What about the sunni/shia divide? They've been murdering each other on and off for centuries!

I haven't watched the video but I am sure whoever it is expressing these extreme views and representing himself as speaking on behalf of Islam, that he does not speak for moderate muslims generally even if he says he does. But don't let me spoil your moral indignation - work yourself up into a frenzy of hatred - go on you know you want to!

LUHE - the five pillars are common to sunni and shia - the diffrerences are doctrinal - this is jgnat's point.
