Bill Cosby - too much smoke for no fire?

It's kind of amazing that this guy could get away with this for this long. ESPECIALLY, him being a black man at that. It would seem like one of these women would have went to hell and beyond to try to bring charges against him. He HAD TO HAVE some big brass backing and covering up for him. I just don't see this one guy doing all of this, for all these years, and not having it take him down a long time ago. If Cosby is 100% guilty of these crimes......there are many others that need to answer with him.

Also, I think most of these women were probably abused by others in Hollywood. That probably won't be revealed

I think this shows he had an interest in using drugs to get women to have sex. I remember at the time thinking it was funny, I really just thought he was joking, but in light of the allegations it seems chilling.

"Guys standing around and talking about Spanish fly: 'You know anything about Spanish fly?'

    'No, tell me about it.'
Well there's this girl Crazy Mary, you put some in her drink man, she, 'Haaaaaaaaaaaaah.'
Oh yeah, that's really groovy man, Spanish fly is groovy, yeah.
From then on, any time you see a girl: 'Wish I had some Spanish fly.'
Go to a party see five girls standing alone: 'Boy if I had a whole jug of Spanish fly, I'd light that corner up over there. HAAAAAAH.'"

I am sick of hearing the "smoke" and "fire" analogies. Smoke is evidence of a fire. So far in the case of Bill Cosby, there hasn't been one bit of evidence that the accusers were not willing participants, much less that the events ever occurred. One accuser claimed Cosby gave her two pills and told her to take them. She did. She also said this happened on multiple occasions. The interviewer asked, "Can you understand why people will assume what occurred was consensual?" The accuser replied, "I can see why you would phrase it that way." The number of accusers is irrelevant if not one can produce evidence to back up an allegation. These accusations are nothing more than "bar talk," and anyone who gives them any creedence is naive, to say the least. There are people who will say or do anything for 15 minutes of attention. Furthermore, screw the "court of public opinion" in which George Zimmerman stands convicted of "murdering" Trayvon Martin even though he was found not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a televised trial. Cosby still gets paid for his NBC sitcom which got pulled. He is no loser!

    LisaRose,

Exactly. Focusing on Spanish Fly misses the point completely. GHB and Rohypnol weren't available at that time. I'm certain the Cos knows all about both of those. He was able to hide the man (the serial rapist) behind the mask (The Cos/Jello Pudding Guy/Dr. Huxtable) for so long because of the mask. Watching and listening to a lot of the interviews with the women, who have accused him of drugging and raping/assaulting them, describe why they didn't come forward clarifies that issue for me. He served - or feigned serving - as a mentor for many of them.

It was difficult for them to believe that Dr. Huxtable/Jello Pudding Man could do such a thing. Just as it is difficult for many of us to believe he is a monster who could do such things. I loved the Cos as much as anyone, but no more. He will get, hopefully, exactly what he deserves. He had his opportunity for his 'day' in court in 2006, but he made that young woman rich rather than face his accusers. If I had lived my life TRULY as the Jello Pudding Man, the Cos and Dr. Huxtable and ONE woman falsely accused me, I would have relished my day in court.

It isn't likely anyone in the media or entertainment will touch him until the day he dies. And that is most excellent.

Update from today's news. Like many of you, Cos was one of my childhood idols. None of us knew that, for 4 decades, he was a monster. Nearly 30 women have officially come forward with nearly identical stories, and nearly 20 others have also stated that the Cos did likewise to them. You can read the story from today's headlines for details.

Yeah, it's gone beyond "smoke" - it's a blazing inferno and hopefully some charges come out of all of this.

It still beggars belief that people actually go and sit though his shows. The only thing he's not accused of now is being a comedian.

How can anyone accused of such vile behaviour by so many people make anyone laugh?

And his wife - she must know the truth. I wonder if she made the choice to excuse it all for the fortune ...

It’s not just the JWs that put up with all the shenanigans of the Watchtower Organization once they are shown the facts, but many people in general seem to not be bothered one bit, when all the facts about someone’s dubious conduct become evident.

DJS, I wanted to click on the Cosby text but I accidentally clicked "dislike" and I can't seem to remove it? I don't dislike your post at all. All I wanted to do was read about Bill confessing. Sorry. :(

This newly released legal document under oath is going to incite many law suits for the reason that a confession is an admittance of guilt usable for conviction or libel, particularly advantageous in a civil law suit.

Cosby's recent retort to these accusations was that he's shocked that this is happening but he didn't directly come out and say he's undeniably innocent.

I think his own celebrity status as a fatherly responsible persona , helped over the years to dissuade or attach the assertion that he was a sexual predator who used drugs to seduce woman for his own sexual gratification.

Fortunate for him these events aren't current, so much time has passed on now that there isn't a likelihood of him doing time but one could guess that his pockets are going to be a little lighter in the foreseeable future.

I was sure it was true all along but it has been upsetting to know he has admitted it. I loved his comedy and let my kids listen to it. People just use others , esp in the arts ( tv, movies, music etc). As bad as Cosby is, remember Roman Polanski ? Ba*tard drugs rapes ( in it's many forms) a 13 yrs old girl and all he got was - he can't come back to the usa. He can make movies that are shown in usa, but just can't come back. Hollywood also does not generally shun him. Unbelievable.
