In the West, in America some 17,000-18,000 young (ages 11-15) people are brought into the US annually as Sex Slaves, that's annually. Its a huge problem.

Thank you, designs, for answering my question and giving an honest answer. BTW I wasn't advocating boxing as a career - I agree with you that it's dangerous and to be avoided.

Joe Frazier must also have been fearless outside the ring. As a Gullah he was no doubt the victim of white bigotry and racism but also other blacks may have viewed him as backward. Gullah people speak their own type of creole, similar to West African English (Nigerian pidgin, Camtok) and Jamaican patois. They also cling to African culture, at least until very recently - white magic, black magic, juju, etc. Muhammad Ali ruthlessly took the p1$$ out of him by calling him Uncle Tom and 'gorilla' but ironically Joe Frazier was the stereotypical black man that Ali claimed to champion.

I don't know what colour you are but I really do feel that the black community needs to pull its socks up, and needs look no further than JF's example.

Self determination and self-help are important factors in life. For 95% of my career I have run my own businesses. What works as impediments are rigged and corrupt systems, which exist everywhere not just in the US. Women in the private professional sectors earning 30% less than a man doing equal work, and a Congress where women and men take home the same salary voted against the Equal Pay Act. We are very strange. We just saw a landslide of Republicans elected by middle class white's who now see those same Republican officials writing a bill to cut out their Family Tax Exemptions but raise Corporate tax loopholes. If you can solve the paradox welcome to America....

Here's a song I wrote a couple years ago about this subject and puts forth my feelings on the subject titled : " Prejudice and Ignorance "

    Prejudice and Ignorance

Prejudice and ignorance it's all just the same

By keeping that view we have ourselves to blame

I don't really know why people have to hate

They just don't realize they need to set it straight

How many times must we cry

    Before we even try

How many young men will die

Til we lift our voice to the sky ?

Black or yellow or white or red

People seek to put down each other instead

They don't really care if they're right or wrong

They just make sure that the hate lasts long

How many tears must we cry

    Before we even try

    How long will hatred fly

Before we tell it good bye ?

What we really need is to not be blind

There has to be a total change of mind

To look at each other as equal and free

And recognize the dignity in humanity

There's not much more I can put in this song

Not until we decide to all get along

If we all join hands we can make a change

With peace and understanding we can all arrange

How many tears must we cry

    Before we even try

Let's have a change of heart

Then we can make a new start

Let's have a change of heart

Then we can make a new start

Then we can make a new start

Then we can make a new start

Just my view on the subject that I wanted to contribute: prejudice and ignorance it IS all the same

"We are a nation of immigrants, from Europe, not from Mexico and all of these other weird places like Africa" Sarah Palin to Sean Hannity....

Speaking of ignorance and prejudice. Nearly 60,000,000 voted for this person to be a heart beat away from the Presidency.

designs - I'm glad Sarah Palin didn't get to be POTUS. Luckily, US citizens have to put up with Barack Obama's brand of lunacy.

simon and marvin shilmer: are you saying that black families anf black communities ought to engage in more self help and be more self made and self reliant to change their narratives and change their lives. If that is the case then do your realise that you are using a narrative developed by a group of people who were born into a priviliged background anyway and if that is the case then this particular narrative would be blind to what it is reallly like to be poor and underpriviliged and would probably be counterproductive.

Who said the narrative is given to them? They need to stop preaching hate and resentment and start preparing their kids for success, not for failure. If you are saying they can't or won't do that on their own and don't want accept help to do it then things really are doomed.

Keep living in the past, keep harping on about slavery and injustice and don't take advantage of any of the freedoms and benefits that have been achieved: great plan.

People worked so hard to change the most important law - having the right to vote. Do people actually use it? The only big turnout was to elect mr black president, beyond that very low turnouts. Why do you imagine the president is now trying so hard to appeal to latino voters? The black community is disappointed that they didn't get the things they expected with obama and now probably can't be relied on as much to turnout in future.

Complaining about the cops is pointless when you have the power to enact changes - ultimately the electorate hold power to put people into office. The notion that communities that have majorities of 70%+ can't "so anything" and don't have any say in the system is just crazy.

Without he or she being aware of it, Ruby456 is actually a racist. Whenever you have a prejudiced opinion that some group of people have no ability to better themselves, for whatever reason, in comparison to other groups, it works on the assumption they do not have the intelligence, will, or natural ability to do so. In other words, they are inferior.

And for god's sake, quit repeating the idiotic mantra, "you are using a narrative developed by a group of people who were born into a priviliged background anyway".

I guess Ruby ignorantly assumes every White person is born rich. It's a default argument for a person who has nothing of substance to contribute to the discussion.

We have major structural repairs needed to the Nation's infrastructure, in excess of several Trillion dollars. Enough work for a few decades. Work for millions, work that can better communities. But we see time and again voters voting against their better interests. 'Small government', 'Sequestration' budget cuts.

In our San Diego County the cost to fix what's here is in the Billions with over a ten year backlog. Jobs Programs, Jobs Training, these are within reach and exist but we need to accelerate these projects.

You make available good careers, where someone can buy a home and put their kids through college and other normal pursuits you'll see changes.

After WWII my Dad came home from the Service and was helped by the GI Bill and the GI Housing Loan programs as were millions.
