use 10:5 to make it easier for the metricians
but see Fark? this thread is fluff, and it isn't doing it's part to raise the averages. What gives? How 'bout a teaching illustration using 10 different sexual preferences?
Farkel, have you been seeing fluffers???
Hey Farkel, yeah theres alot of hurt dubs. But then theres guys like you with all kinds of research and inside knowledge that helps the others work things out.A pretty good balance if you ask me...OUTLAW
I think their are a number of considerations that need to be taken into account in this issue.
1) Most JW's are totally disinterested in JW doctrine and in the Bible and in fact know far less about their beliefs than many of their opposers. When somebody leaves the WTS they do not suddenly become interested in JW doctrine and Biblical analysis but are perhaps more interested in a sense of community, something which for better or worse the WTS does give its adherents.
2) Much of the overturning of WTS doctrine, analysis of faulty Biblical, historical and pseudo-scientific doctrine has already taken place over the past twenty years, and especially the past five years on the Internet, subsequently much information bought to the Board is repetitive and more often than not designed to 'hook' the lurkers who come to the site.
3) When an issue does present itself it is often thrashed to within an inch of its life with such aggression that onlookers are often intimidated by the angst displayed by some posters They then, through fear, shy off from presenting their personal views should they be contrary to the majority. This can then stifles the spirit of debate and threads can then become one-sided, backslapping routines.
My own preference for serious discussion is often frustrated when what are imho valuable threads disappear from the Board in an hour with minimal hits, when sperm-tasting threads can last for weeks and get hundreds of hits. This obviously stops many posting more serious threads, some of which can take much effort to research. This is however the nature of the human beast and will not change. Everybody looks down with disdain on such vile rags as National Enquirer, in fact I have yet to meet somebody he admits reading itlol, yet is sells several million copies each issue.
A brief visit along memory lane will remind us that some of our most notable posters of a year ago are either minimalists in their posts, or do not post at all. Hopefully they have moved on to real life and not turned away from the Board in frustration.
Just some thoughts - HS
Hey HS-
I admit it.
I read Time, National Geographic, GQ, Maxim, Sports Illustrated, The Enquirer, and WEEKLY WORLD NEWS.
Weekly World News:
"Bigfoot kept lumberjack as love slave."
I believe Sean Connery said it best in the film Finding Forrester when referring to the gossip papers.
To paraphrase it, yes, you have your Pulitzer Prize material and your very important research articles, which would be best described as the main course. However, you also have your gossip papers, which qualify as dessert.
We all have a different mission. My main interest lies in the social issues that JW's and ex- JW's have to deal with. Sometimes I like to discuss points of doctrine elsewhere, but I only feel strongly about doctrine when it impinges on personal freedoms and choices.
Englishman.
Farkel, if it makes you feel any better, I've read ALL of your threads! Literally all of them, one by one, from the first to the very last! And they were brilliant!
It is a pity that bodily fluid threads get so many hits when other worthy threads fall off the front page in minutes. Then again, there is a well known principle in the world of advertising called "SEX SELLS"...
