I went from broke to something over a period of time. What most Jw's lack is Financial Education which will help achieve anything you can dream of if you put the work in. It can be done!

I did the Pioneer thing but came to my senses after I got married and got a real job. Never paid a shred of attention to the bumph about not saving or investing. Knew several Circuit Overseers that had pretty good investment accounts. I retired with no debt and enough money invested that I maintained a six figure income. I know quite a few people that did similar things but I also know even more people that did not. That's on them, no one put a gun to their heads and told them they couldn't be sensible about planning for retirement.

You have to ask yourself Does the Organization, The Brothers, Jehoeber do anything for my benefit of my family and net worth? If the answer is No, then, you need to change plans. Do things that benefit you financially and for your family. If it's one sided.. it's time to leave!

    Yes.

Its always about the Borganization. Its demands & what benefits them. Not you. Period.

    JAZZBO:

That part about you knowing several Circuit Overseers that had good investment accounts - would make some of these unprepared older JWs positively ill.. You really can’t deny the utter hypocrisy of it.

I always remembered the COs when they visited. They made derogatory remarks about people who ‘didn’t get enough hours in’. That was me because I worked full time. You therefore would never catch me offering any hospitality to these idiots. Nope. They could starve or go order fast food and eat their fries in the parking lot.

While it is technically ‘true’ that nobody put a gun to anybody’s head forcing them not to prepare for retirement - the JWs created a culture where the ‘shun gun’ was used.. This tactic didn’t work on me - but I am an unusual case.. I wasn’t raised a JW and came into the religion a young adult already with the job.. I just ignored these people and kept on working.

Other young people in the hall (fearing loss of titles 🤣, being ostracized like me, getting no invitations to special dinners/gatherings) .may have caved in to this peer pressure and therefore are suffering this day because Armageddon didn’t come to save them... All I can say is I am grateful today I never fell for this giant con. I ended up ‘Fading’ after the 1995 thing.

    LHG,

    From the author David Ignatius:

”Often, the biggest decisions we make in life aren’t really decisions at all. They are the product of habit and momentum - things that have been going on for long enough that that have built up their own speed and force, and have become difficult to stop or deflect.

    So you let them happen.

A lot of marriages are like that, and career choices and decisions about where to go to college, or whether to have children, or where to live. We call them decisions, but they really aren’t.They come to us pre-made, the sum of so many previous events and determinations that they have have a weight which feels like a layer of time”.

In short, we are not as free to make our own choices as some may have us believe!

So are pioneers able to actually save money now with all the changes of late?

when I was growing up you had to make many sacrifices to pioneer, no way you could save and invest.

is there going to be an apology to all those who didn’t save and invest?

Finance education is great. Budgeting education, simple math, and escaping cult mind control are what is needed by most people.

Is there going to be an 'apology'.

    Um. No.

Remember. "No apology" is needed either.

    Never expect.,,any such thing.

Things have changed so much now, JWs actually saving and investing for retirement.

all the long time JWs who died of old age last decade would turn in their graves.

the question is why have any sense of urgency if we are now told at the same time to save, invest and plan for retirement?

it all flies in the face of 1914 Jesus sat on his throne as appointed king and appointed the GB 3.5 years later in 1919 as his one true religion on earth.

Now it is 2025 and they start telling JWs actually it would be a good idea to start saving, investing and planning for retirement 😮
