    ELDERBERRY:

Yes, those old-time Witnesses should be turning in their graves because of all these changes.

I was just watching a YouTube by some ex-JW about the ‘Great Disappointment’. I wonder if things are going to start unraveling among some of those disappointed older JWs there?.. One thing I am Glad of is that I got out ages ago. I am grateful for each day and happy with simple things and the few nice people I know.. I am sure many older JWs are broke (because of no career) and ailing.. I would find it unbearable to be around any of these people so anxious for the End to come!

Jehovahs witnesses were never stopped from working full time or saving for retirement.

They we’re just treated badly in the congregation.

No privileges and minimal association outside of the meetings.

I’ve been the recipient of a marking talk for being open about some of the investments I have.

The Jay dubs want to keep you hand to mouth poor. You are easier to control that way.

    HOSER:

’Treated badly in the congregation’, can be an understatement. It also varied, I think, if you were a man. You got less grief over that full-time job than I did.

But, it happened and it was worth every penny in the end that I got ‘shunned’ and not invited to those special dinners! No regrets (any more than all those older JWs had who were collecting their pensions).

Now, all those people who knocked me years ago can deal with the consequences of listening to fools and hypocrites. I’m not interested and don’t have any pity.

LHG: You reminded me of what Groucho Marx said: In 1959 Groucho himself told about resigning a club in his memoir “Groucho and Me”, but he presented a fictionalized version of the story in which the club was referred to as the Delaney Club:)

The following morning I sent the club a wire stating, PLEASE ACCEPT MY RESIGNATION. I DON’T WANT TO BELONG TO ANY CLUB THAT WILL ACCEPT ME AS A MEMBER.

This reminds me of a couple, long time JW's. He was a carpet layer for years and years until he couldn't do it anymore physically. His wife got a job in her 50's, never worked a day a secular job before. He eventually was able to get a job at Home Depot advising in the flooring department. Perfect...right!!

Nooooo. He wasn't a servant mind you, but he was counseled for working nights. He quit that job to appease the congregation, but was so angry about it. I felt so bad for him. He was trying to provide for his family, give his wife a break...

    This wasn't that many years ago...maybe 10.

    DAGNEY:

You said: “He quit that job to appease the congregation”.

This is the terrible trap that almost all Jehovah’s Witnesses fell into: trying to appease the congregation (Brother and Sister Jealous)... I’ll get down on my knees thankful to God I never did that.

Even though I didn’t like being shunned and excluded from invitations, my fear of having no $$ trumped anything any of those idiots thought about me. Meanwhile, many of those older affluent JWs pushing poverty for some young person had already earned their living!! These older JWs are gone today in 2025 and not even around to help anybody they misled all those years ago!

So, there is no justice here.

I’m sorry I never had the chance to tell those Witnesses off but will content myself with the fact I never paid attention to anything the religion said… I do take particular pleasure now in telling this to some older JWs I might run into.. I get mixed reactions: some commend me for doing the right thing and others are a tad resentful because either they are sorry they didn’t and also because they cannot admit the religion was wrong! ..That is their problem.

How does the new light about saving and investing for in with young people leaving school? Still no advance education recommendations?

Yes there are. Don't do it! Just last week's Study WT there was an "experience" of someone who went to Uni to do architecture. Gave it up to pioneer. Probably all made up but they still vilify education. I wonder who does all the design work on their Ramapo site? Pioneers & janitors?

St George, could possibly be jws called in to do design work that were in that field or had that training before they were jws.

I only see this as a way to cover their tracks, in case they receive further backlash from the younger generation which exists now, in decades to come when they are old and grey.
