Dearest Nikki ? My heart goes out to you and your intentions. It's taken me over an hour to read this thread and I wanted you to know I agree with much you initially said and think it?s brave and very open of you to post this to begin with. You seemed to bring your friend here to this board out of love and concern and expected that person to come away with new insight.
As usual I agree with SF Jim and cannot put it any more eloquently then he already did. Along with the ?freedom, there?s such a ?danger? with threads and the internet as a whole. There are only a handful of certified professionals here and in the meantime the rest of us act as sounding boards. The ?danger? comes in with anonymous personalities who may recommend a course of action that could cause more harm than good.
I wouldn?t recommend suggesting this site to anyone close to you. If you can muddle your way through and pull out the positive things you need from it ? then that?s what this site is about. Stay strong and thank you for sticking with us this long.

I think you are over-generalizing Nickey. Yes, there are a lot of low brow pranks, but for every immature topic, there are at least 5 where people put their nose to the grind stone, do some reasearch, and perform a critical analysis of a WT article.
Heck Blondie is pumping out WT article critiques on a weekly basis. If that's not intelligent enough for you, then I don't know what you are looking for.
But at any rate, it doesn't really matter where you go: here, school, parties, churches, or even the KH, there will always be those who turn you off and those who you consider to be trouble makers. So the way I see it, this place is as good as any.
Personally, I thought this place was very welcoming and supporting when I decided to leave the borg. Although I only studied with the duds for a couple of years, while most people seemed to grow up in the troof, nobody seemed to care. I was accepted and treated just like everyone else.
Another thing I'm thankful for is this place doesn't look down on "n00bies." New people are treated with respect, just like steely veterans. Most online communities seem to hate new people, and automatically assume they are stupid. Something to think about.
I think you are just upset about something Nickey, and I hope you give us all another chance. Just take a deep breath, and relax.

I have a friend who for years has been threatening to go to the Memorial at a Kingdom Hall with flashlights strapped around his waist, stand up in the middle of the Memorial, flip the switch, and proclaim that he is an angel sent to warn the congregation to leave the JWs.
snicker. snicker.
The idea is admittedly amusing, yet, he never actually does it. Why? Because he knows (as do I) that realistically, he would be looked upon as a persecutor or an agent of Satan, giving the JWs more fodder to believe that they are being persecuted because they are the "true religion".

Yeah, I wince when I see those types of posts. This is definitely not a place I would send a questioning friend or relative - not unless they were pretty well past the point of no return. I felt the same way as you when I first started posting on H2O years ago - embarrassed to be percieved as a part of something connected with so many ridiculous posts/posters. This made it difficult for me to talk about the site with one of my elder friends. Fortunately it turned out he knew the site well so it wasn't so bad, but I didn't mention the site to many others. I was very hesitant to mention the site to my mom even though she was well past the point of no return.
It's unfortunate, but it's reality. That's why we might want to be cautious about inviting curious/doubting witnesses to certain 'apostate' web sites.

When I first came here I was on a mission. I was so overjoyed to find this website, well I just can't tell you because I don't have the words to describe the feeling. My mission was to find the truth and I did. I also found joy and heartbreak and all the other things that come with being an Ex JW.
As far as sniping and griping and anything mean or negative, I never saw it or if I did it never registered because I did not allow anything to deter me.
This place healed a wound that had been open since 1989!!
Maybe you have to be ready. Maybe your relatives weren't ready. Please don't be angry with the people here. I don't believe for one minute that anyone here would intentionally drive anyone away.

This would be the last place I'd send a dub thinking about leaving Nickey. There are some great sites for research but this isn't one of them. Aztec is one of us and she was attacked pretty bad the other day. Yeah that shows the love apostates have. On this site I've seen jokes or justifications about rape, hatred for other members, and the repeated use of the word fag which is just as bad as the word nigger in my mind.
They try to moderate here so I do appreciate that but you can't moderate stupidity.

Ballastic don't even go there. You know full well what Beans intent was on that fag thread and what the joke was. It was very obvious from the beginning. The thread got locked for a good reason. Beans isn't from England is he? It was BS and the proof of it was that he also wrote a thread about bitches at the same time. I wonder how emails getting circulating at work would be handled if they were the same as those threads here.
Don't go there ballastic, it wasn't funny then and it sure as hell isn't funny now.
