Would it be reasonable of you to label as a liar the medical researcher who promised you four decades earlier that your mother would “not die”? After all, your aged mother is indeed now dead.

A doctor wouldn't say that, nicolaou. 'extend her life' perhaps.

A five year-old child would be better prepared for life's challenges than Adam and Eve were. So, when faced with an obedience test is it any wonder that they failed at the first attempt?

    @Nicolau

I think these are some fair speculations on why Eve chose not to initially believe God.

Why have you chosen not to believe God?

Sea Breeze: Why have you chosen not to believe God?

He kills innocent children. That's a big turnoff for me.

Here you are pointing to what the snake said after the lie. He's good at this as you can see.

No, he said this is what would happen and it's exactly the same as what god says did happen.

Whatever the case, here immediately the snake responds with "you will not die".

And again, nothing in "eating the fruit" would / should have killer her. God decided to murder her for his own failure to prepare and protect them. He was a grade-A fuckup from the start, and continued to be a grade-A fuckup all through the book.

We are all under a death sentence.... the whole species and planet is too for that matter. It's a lot worse than just children dying. I am particularly turned off by my personal death should the Lord tarry.

This is why I have chosen to believe God.

Isn't it interesting how two people can look at the same data and decide on opposite courses of action?

I am very grateful that since Calvary, people actually have a choice.

They were guilty as sin. So, they died, in accordance with the Law.

How could they sin when they didn't know what evil was and until they knew what it was?

Who decided and administered the law? Was it what you claim to be the "loving" god?

Sin and death entered the world because a decision was made NOT to believe God.

You claim sin entered the world through them eating the fruit ... yet there was one of gods perfect creatures totally able to use super-powers to deceive them apparently telling porkie pies and deceiving them. Seems like sin was already there and they were just collateral damage.

There's no way to spin it where gods hands don't come our dripping with blood, utterly incompetent, or a bit of both.

    Why.

If you believe a story, the ransom has been paid, so why still the punishment?

At least make an effort into trying to make sense of it, or admit it's baloney, just don't trot out the tired platitudes and soundbites that are meaningless drivel.

If everlasting life really had been in store for Adam and Eve don't you think it would've been the first thing God would've told them they'd forfeited after eating the fruit?

Details like the ground being harder to work and less productive, the newly introduced pain into childbirth and the dominance of a husband over his wife are all a bit grim but you'd think losing immortality might at least get a mention.

Truth is that living forever was never held out as a prospect to these adult children. It was only ever mentioned in a private conversation amongst the gods afterwards as something to be withheld.

    Like the Truman Show.

How could they sin when they didn't know what evil was and until they knew what it was?

Eve, didn't act confused at all when she restated what God said. She knew what the law was. She simply chose to believe someone else. And this is the core issue of our entire existence.

You claim sin entered the world through them eating the fruit

The fruit is just a manifestation of the core issue: each person must personally decide whether or not to believe God. The sin resides in the unbelief, just as life eternal resides in believing God.

"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that

believeth not the Son shall not see life" - God

Things haven't changed since Eden, it's still about belief, and we still have a choice.
