Are most people just plain stupid?

I would say most people are not stupid. Apathetic yes but, stupid, no. However, I think apathy is far worse than ignorance.

Brummie, believe it or not Brad is actually a very sweet guy with a tough facade. That's one of the problems with the internet; it's hard to really get to know the three dimensional person when you are only presented with one dimension. He's a very curious person which I find admirable.

Often I see beautiful children and their parents are ugly.

So, maybe dumb parents could make intelligent children too. hehe

    Brad,

I do believe the average person does not live up to their intellectual potential and simply chooses to remain in a cocoon of ignorance about many things.

I do understand what you are trying to say Brad, but your arguments are a little fuzzy.

For example, you use the term 'average person'. What exactly is an average person? If such a beast exists, are you defining an average Westerner, African, Oceanic? There are a vast world of 'averages' out there.

It is true that many, often through no fault of their own, do not live up to their intellectual potential. Often they have lacked opportunity, encouragment, money, food, medicine and other things that allows them to emerge from a less cognitive state. Human beings are not machines and do not behave with detached intelligence. It is true that some may deliberately chose to remain ignorant about certain matters, but that would not mean that they lack intellectuality. It may mean that they are just disinterested in a particular discipline.

    Best regards - HS

I have faith in people to ultimately make the right decisions for themselves. If most people were stupid I don't think that civilization would have progressed to the point that it has.

That being said, I think there exists much ignorance in the world and much of that ignorance is sanctioned and encouraged by people in a position of power. Either with money or political or any other form of influence. I think make the false assumptoin that they are intelligent based upon their schooling or achievements and I believe a lot of people are sold short for the same reasons. I think the most intelligent are those who know their purpose in life and are aware of themselves and those around them.

Unanswerable the way you asked it. Are most fruits just plain boring? We gotcher apples and yer bananas. Then there are the rarer persimmons and pomagranates. HOWCOME OUR WORLD doesn't have more persimmons and pomagranates?

    • Intelligence is one thing. I have seen highly intelligent people justify incredibly stupid actions.
    • Then there is ignorance. Some people chose to remain ignorant, others do not know there is any other way.
    • And then there are the fools of the world. Read Proverbs for examples. Foolishness has very little to do with intelligence, and everything to do with selfish choices.
    • And then there is the societal trend to trust witch doctory over science. I can argue 'till I am blue in the face that their stance is just plain illogical, and it won't matter. They read it over the internet, a "doctor" endorsed it, so it must be true.
    • And, yes, some people float through life without ever putting their fundamental beliefs to the test. ...but maybe they are the ones shovelling snow for the neighbourhood grandma.

My husband is not the smartest man on the block. But he has taught me volumes on how to appreciate people just the way they are made. Most people who look at an apple see a red round thing. This I know, because I saw them draw red round things in Art class. I have spent hours studying a single apple. Besides it's inner minty glow of life, it is clothed in greens and oranges, reds and purples. Sunlight adds dazzle, deep shade gives depth. And not a single apple is perfectly round.

I like apples. Each one is so unique and interesting.

I like peoples. All of them.

Bradley... are you familiar with the concept of multiple intelligences?

Everything you're describing seems to be a function of analytical intelligence, abstract thinking. But there's also emotional intelligence, mechanical intelligence, artistic intelligence, and a couple of others that I can't remember right now.

I've known a good number of people who would consider folks like you or me pretty dumb, because all we've got is "book-learnin'".
