Worst elder in the history of man: a guy named Mitchell in an Atlanta suburb.

We had a sister in the congregation become addicted to Demerol. It was a sad and ugly sight. After years of struggle, she finally beat it. A couple of years later, she had to have a major surgery. Of course they administered pain medication which made her kinda loopy. When this guy entered the hospital room where she was, he immediately attacked her for being like a "dog returning to its vomit," and accused her of all sorts of terrible behaviors. All this because she was taking IV pain medication post-op. His behavior was so execreable that the attending doctor, witnessing this spectacle, ordered this guy from the room and demanded that he not return. He made the nurse note in the sister's chart that the guy was not to be allowed access to the room ever again.

Rodriques? Tall ego tripping CO with wife named Pat?
I think he would have been happier in life as an actor
on stage. Not awful, just typical.

    Jurs,

That would be Richard and Mar-Lyn Eagle. They served in Minnesota about 15 years ago. He started every talk with a fresh illustration, making his talks ones I'd always look forward to.

    Gopher, enjoying the fresh air

And then there was JERRY CRANNA, ex-bethelite, and fanatic's
fanatic. This guy , as C.O., was unbelieveable. Rumored to
have set a record for removing elders. Gave morbid talks
and used sick illustrations - finally df'd one too many
old timers and created such bad feeling the Society had
to remove him. Would have done well as a fundy preaching hellfire.

Actually, I wish he was back in power. A guy like him
could destroy the organization faster than 50 apostates.

    Yes, Mulan:

"TMS: You talked about several that I know too.
<<Lester M. Dugan: favorite expression during assemblies describing TMS students was "they sweated literally drops of blood." Wife liked checking out business territories during circuit assemblies so she could make many "placements".>> I knew them well too. When I was in High School, I remember going into business territory with Sister Dugan and placing tons of literature. I learned out to do businesses from her. I think they are both long dead. I knew them in the early 60's, and they were pushing 60 then"

I name-dropped several traveling men cross-sectionally, hoping someone would recall them.

Just a couple anecnotes about Dugan. As a 19 year old, giving a 30 minute talk at a circuit assembly, Dugan chitchatted with me after the talk, complementing me and expressing appreciation that I had ignored the CO's directions and followed the outline. "Its just an example of circuit overseer's not reading their mail," he lamented. I felt like such a heavyweight and rushed to change into street clothes so I could work in the kitchen. Recalling that I had forgot my Bible and materials on stage, I rushed to retrieve them, only to be greeted by a deep-voiced chastizer: "Get off the stage, young man before I call your folks!" It was Dugan again. He didn't recognize me in street clothes.

Later, that same assembly, I heard Sis. Dugan call out to her husband: "I placed 90 magazines today Lester!" "Thats not many for you dear!" he said.

The next assembly in a small town I checked out all the business territory. I overheard Sister Dugan crying that someone had taken all her territory. Next assembly I tried the same trick and was informed the business territory had been reserved for Sister Dugan.

    Joelbear,

I couldn't believe it when I saw your post...lol...I was going to post Peter Lett as my favorite CO! I agree that he was a bit stuffy but I thought he and his wife (was her name Rosemarie?) were really sweet people. And god, could he crack us up! He had our cong in stitches every time he visited! Did he drive that old Mercedes when he served your cong?? Manys the time I got to ride in that car in service...those are actually some of the very FEW fond memories I have of "growin' up watchtower'....

I remember a CO that everyone was terrified of but I can't think of his name...he was like a bull in a china shop tho...had the elders scurrying around in terror...

    Thanks for the memories.....

I remember John Mason! We had him for Georgia circuit #6 in the early 80's. I liked him a lot being an impressionable dublet at the time. Looking back, I can see what you mean about tyrannical. Wasn't he a big baptist preacher before joining the dubs?

    Hey Pork Chop,

Are you from the midwest? You seem to know all the CO's that I knew.
Actually, Alvin Penn and William Osbeck were the only CO's I ever met who treated single mothers like they had some worth! Especially William Osbeck. He did have quite an intellect. Too bad he didn't use it to see how useless the Org really was instead of telling everyone that the Witnesses went waaaaay back in History. He would tell of different groups that at that time, I'd never even heard of, to show everyone that the "annointed" came from long before the modern day Org was formed. What a bunch of bulldust it all looks like, now.

You were right about Sealy. He was harsh, and pretty much clueless when it came to human relationships!
