Gerard, in what sense was Kennedy making a scapegoat out of the Cia?
In this current case, It's hard to know. The CIA probably does share some of the blame, but when your boss tells you "I want to hear X Y & Z" enough, most people will eventually find a way to tell their boss X Y & Z . Simply put, it is not the president's place to ever care one way or the other what the intelligence points to... that's not honest leadership. The president should be interested only in the truth, how else is he going to make good decisions for the country? He had no business ever wanting a war with Iraq. Even the most right wing among us should realize by now that indeed the president wanted a war with Iraq.

are you honestly saying the US is not at all responsible for the hate of the arabs against them?
Yeah. That's like saying the Jews were NOT responsible for the hatred Hitler and the Germans had against them. It's ALWAYS the fault of those victimized. They should have realized upsetting someone has consequences....

Oh no, something far more understandable, in view of the fact that they "don't like the US." As Al Queda has said on numerous occasion; the US is the ENEMY. God will destroy the US and everything it stands for. God supports the killing of innocent people to make a point.
Face it folks, its our fault for making them made. Just like it's the minority vicim's fault when there are hate crimes committed against them. It's more important to get the the ROOT of these people's hate for their victims than to censure them. What has the minority DONE to fuel this hate???...

blacksheep,
same question to you as to plm, what is the source of the arab hate against the US?
are you two at all aware of the palestinian conflict? the role the US played in iran, the embargo against iraq that cost the life of over half a million peolpe, the attacks against lybia, etc. ?

Powell said he hopes the 9/11 Commission looking into pre-war intelligence "will look into these matters to see whether or not the intelligence agency had a basis for the confidence that they placed in the intelligence at the time."
Yeah, big fat news flash... For the last several months EVERYONE realizes that the intel received may not have been as accurate as suspected. Intel was not as reliable as one would have hoped. That is ALL Colin Powell is saying now.
Gee, that's never happened before. The intel Kennedy which prompted the Bay of Pigs fiasco was ALSO faulty. No one's suggesting our beloved JFK was responsible for the CIA bad intel.

If by your comments you are suggesting the the hate-filled Islamo-fascist terrorist groups are somehow justified in murdering innocent poeple because they don't like the way the US has acted in these situations, then I'm not going to waste my time even discussing this with you.
Again, why not also go back to the Crusades, like Al-Queda has done, to demonstrate how the Christian world deserves to be punished. How far back ya wanna go??
What I CAN say is the Arab world IS characterized by terrorist killing; of their own, of others. I think you need to STOP blaming the US for the Palestinian/Israeli crises. It is clear these people cannot or do not want to live in peace. Because war-mongering, murderous terrorists with no respect for human life flourish in some of the Arab nations is no reason to start looking at who "got them there" in the first place.

blacksheep,
i do not condone the killing of innocent people but there is defininately a huge double standard here.
i have a question...are you for capital punishment? from your comments i assume you are. so how many years can pass before a person connot be charged with a murder anymore? the embargo that killed hundreds of thousands of iraqis is less than 10 years ago. can the US just say "ah we did this 5 years ago and we cannot be blamed for what we did in the past even if it was yesterday"? have the arabs no right to want revenge? can you honestly say you would not hate the arabs if they killed your family?
also, it is, like it or not, a simple fact that the US playes a major role in the palestinian conflict.
It is clear these people cannot or do not want to live in peace.
the arabs the jews or both?

Some time ago, i read that one of those neocons spent time at the cia every day to make sure that they came up w the appropriate intelligence. Also, in 2002, rumsfeld created an office of special plans OSP made up of neocons, within the pentagon. Intelligence from cia was funneled through osp on it's way to the whitehouse.
Here are some quotes:
The Office of Special Plans purposefully ignores intelligence that undermines the case for war while exaggerating any leads that support its biases. ?It wasn't intelligence,?it was propaganda,? Karen Kwiatkowski, who worked at the NESA desk, will later explain. ?They'd take a little bit of intelligence, cherry-pick it, make it sound much more exciting, usually by taking it out of context, often by juxtaposition of two pieces of information that don't belong together.? [New Yorker, 5/5/03; New York Times, 10/24/02; Inter Press Service, 8/7/03; Guardian, 7/17/03; Salon, 7/16/03; Independent, 9/30/03; Mother Jones, 1/04 Sources: Ellen Tauscher, Unnamed former intelligence official, Greg Thielmann] Guardian, 7/17/03; Salon, 7/16/03; New Yorker, 5/5/03; Mother Jones, 1/04 Sources: David Obey, Unnamed senior officer who left the Pentagon during the planning of the Iraq war, Greg Thielmann] The people at Special Plans are so successful at bypassing conventional procedures, in part, because their neoconservative colleagues hold key positions in several other agencies and offices.
Wurmser works at Feith's office, where he and another neocon, F. Michael Maloof, a former aide to Richard Perle, head a secret intelligence unit, named the Counter Terrorism Evaluation Group, or the ?Wurmser-Maloof? project. The four- to five-person unit, a ?B Team? commissioned by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, uses powerful computers and software to scan and sort already-analyzed documents and reports from the CIA, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency, and other agencies in an effort to consider possible interpretations and angles of analysis that these agencies may have missed due to deeply ingrained biases and out-of-date worldviews. [Washington Times, 1/14/02; Mother Jones, 1/04; New York Times, 10/24/02; Los Angeles Times, 2/8/04; Reuters, 2/19/04] The Pentagon unit's activities cause tension within the traditional intelligence community. Critics claim that its members manipulate and distort intelligence, ?cherry-picking? bits of information that fit their preconceived conclusions. ?There is a complete breakdown in the relationship between the Defense Department and the intelligence community, to include its own Defense Intelligence Agency,? a defense official will tell the New York Times. ?Wolfowitz and company disbelieve any analysis that doesn't support their own preconceived conclusions. The CIA is enemy territory, as far are they're concerned.? [New York Times, 10/24/02 Sources: Unnamed defense official]
