Believe me she has STRONG political views, and loves John Kerry. It's so funny to hear her talk about it. I don't dare remind her she is supposed to be neutral. It's one of the conversation topics we agree on.

I can't believe it! A liberal loving Jehovah's Witness who supports John Kerry for president.....I LOVE it!!

Preventing independent thinking trough fear and guilt is a very effective thought-stoping process which allows the indoctrination process to implant more phobias and further the individual's need to belong and seek "shelter" under the mother borganization.
When out of answers, they use the WT's. Therefore, meaningful reasoning is lost.

You guys are wrong.
JWs are very reasonable people you can talk to them all day given them argue after argument againts their faith. They will usually concede to each point and admit you are correct. But they will not actually hange their course of action. Unfortunately the type of reasonableness jws cultivate is has little to do with them actually turning an academic arguement into a belief. All humans are like this. I can argue slavery is good and that to help african americans we should re-enslave them. I can point out facts and such, make a case. I doubt a majority of americans would start enslaving people. Calculating Reason is not a god sent.

And how about that glazy, absent look in the elders' faces when you try to reason with them?! Priceless, really.

I would like to see a JW who lived in the 20's try to reason with a JW living today.

LOL JH...that would definitely be interesting! Each would consider the other an apostate, no doubt.

I've posted this before but my Mom's favourite comeback when he's in a corner during a Jw arguement is : "Well my son...the worst witness is still better than the best worldly person".
So the answer is NO.
You cannot reason with a Jw because they are insane !

As far as reasoning, I think its case by case. A Jw will tell certain things about themselves and not even realize when conversing about "worldy" afairs.
Im certain, things that are said around me are not things that would be repeated at the Hall. While studying with moms husband, many times Ive picked up on little things when discussing scripture that would definately indicate he was doubting the Org.
He even went as far to say "I wouldnt say that in mixed company" (flip flop on Sodom&Gamorah)
Now my mom is more emotional, when I back her in a corner, the ole "evil slave class" label starts to fly.
So its definately case by case.
